Hook:
Steve from Minecraft. All about survival. Creepers. Skeletons. You win the game when you make it to the end and defeat the deer dragon. The end. You’re not Steve. You didn’t defeat Stan, Christ did.
Main Idea:
The question is not how fast you will run after Jesus. It is will you kneel before Him?
You can do great things for God and still miss God altogether.
Genesis teaches that our calling is greater than the discomforts of this life. Jesus is worth it.
1) Kneel Before the God of the Garden
Genesis 3:8–9 (NASB)
“They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?’”
You can’t walk with God if you’re still hiding from Him.
Before you can follow Jesus, you have to kneel before Him. Stop running from conviction and start responding in surrender. The garden reminds us that sin separates — but Jesus restores. The One who called out to Adam now calls us to draw near again.
2) Leave the Ashes of Your Past Behind
Genesis 19:26 (NASB)
“But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
You can’t move forward with God if you keep looking back to what He’s called you out of.
Lot’s wife longed for the comfort of what was destroyed. We do the same when we cling to old habits, relationships, or desires that Jesus already redeemed. The call of Christ is to leave the ashes and walk into the new life He’s promised. Conviction over comfort.
3) Learn to Live with a Limp
Genesis 32:30–31 (NASB)
“So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, ‘I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.’ Now the sun rose upon him just as he crossed over Penuel, and he was limping on his hip.”
The blessing is not in winning the fight; it’s in walking with God afterward.
Jacob wrestled for control and left changed forever. Sometimes the mark of a follower of Jesus isn’t strength — it’s surrender. The limp becomes a reminder that grace wins.
Closing Thought:
Genesis reminds us that Jesus has always been the center of God’s story.
He is the voice in the garden, the fire from heaven, and the man who wrestled Jacob.
“Our calling is not to run faster for God but to kneel deeper before Him.”
Will you bow down to King Jesus?
