INTRO
INTRO
JESUS RESTORES WHAT IS BROKEN, RENEWS WHAT IS LOST, AND BRINGS LIFE WHERE WAS NONE.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
WHEN JESUS STEPS IN, EVERYTHING CHANGES.
JESUS GIVES NEW VISION TO PEOPLE WHO FEEL STUCK IN DARKNESS.
ONE MOMENT WITH JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING.
MAIN IDEA
MAIN IDEA
JESUS DOESN’T JUST CHANGE WHAT YOU SEE, HE CHANGES HOW YOU SEE.
1. BLINDNESS ISN’T THE END
1. BLINDNESS ISN’T THE END
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?”
“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.
THE DISCIPLES SAW A PROBLEM, JESUS SAW A PURPOSE.
SOMETIMES THE VERY THING WE WISH GOD WOULD REMOVE IS THE THING HE WANTS TO REDEEM.
A. NOT EVERY STRUGGLE IS PUNISHMENT
A. NOT EVERY STRUGGLE IS PUNISHMENT
NOT EVERYTHING DIFFICULT IN YOUR LIFE IS GOD PUNISHING YOU, SOMETIMES IT’S GOD POSITIONING YOU.
“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.
YOUR STRUGGLE MAY BE THE STAGE WHERE GOD SHOWS HIS POWER.
GOD DOESN’T WASTE PAIN, HE USES IT.
THE PLACE OF YOUR GREATEST FRUSTRATION MAY BECOME THE PLACE OF GOD’S GREATEST REVELATION.
B. JESUS WORKS IN UNEXPECTED WAYS.
B. JESUS WORKS IN UNEXPECTED WAYS.
Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes.
GOD’S METHODS MAY CONFUSE YOU, BUT HIS POWER NEVER FAILS.
JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT GOD IS DOING DOESN’T MEAN HE ISN’T WORKING.
MIRACLES OFTEN BEGIN IN MESSY PLACES.
C. OBEDIENCE UNLOCKS THE MIRACLE
C. OBEDIENCE UNLOCKS THE MIRACLE
He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!
GOD’S DIRECTION OFTEN PRECEDES GOD’S MIRACLE.
OBEDIENCE IS WHERE FAITH BECOMES REAL.
WHAT FEELS STRANGE TO YOU MAY BE THE STEP GOD IS USING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
2. CHANGE CREATES A STORY
2. CHANGE CREATES A STORY
His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?”
A. REAL CHANGE GETS ATTENTION
WHEN GOD TRULY MOVES IN YOUR LIFE, PEOPLE WILL NOTICE.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
WHEN JESUS CHANGES YOUR LIFE, IT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO HIDE.
TRANSFORMATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL TESTIMONY.
B. NOT EVERYONE WILL UNDERSTAND YOUR STORY
Some said he was, and others said, “No, he just looks like him!”
But the beggar kept saying, “Yes, I am the same one!”
NOT EVERYONE WILL CELEBRATE THE CHANGE GOD IS DOING IN YOU.
PEOPLE WHO KNEW THE OLD YOU MAY STRUGGLE WITH THE NEW YOU.
C. YOUR STORY POINTS PEOPLE TO JESUS.
YOUR STORY, HIS GLORY.
He told them, “The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see!”
YOUR STORY MAY BE THE BRIDGE THAT LEADS SOMEONE TO JESUS.
YOUR TESTIMONY CARRIES THE EVIDENCE OF GOD’S POWER.
3. TRUTH SILENCES DOUBT
3. TRUTH SILENCES DOUBT
Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.” Others said, “But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?” So there was a deep division of opinion among them.
Then the Pharisees again questioned the man who had been blind and demanded, “What’s your opinion about this man who healed you?”
The man replied, “I think he must be a prophet.”
The Jewish leaders still refused to believe the man had been blind and could now see, so they called in his parents. They asked them, “Is this your son? Was he born blind? If so, how can he now see?”
His parents replied, “We know this is our son and that he was born blind, but we don’t know how he can see or who healed him. Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.” His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who had announced that anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue. That’s why they said, “He is old enough. Ask him.”
So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, “God should get the glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.”
SOMETIMES THE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD RECOGNIZE GOD THE MOST, MISS HIM COMPLETELY.
A. FAITH DOESN’T REQUIRE ALL THE ANSWERS
SOMETIMES THE MOST POWERFUL FAITH IS SIMPLE FAITH.
B. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE CREATES UNSHAKABLE FAITH.
“I don’t know whether he is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!”
WHAT JESUS HAS DONE IN YOUR LIFE IS UNDENIABLE.
NO ONE CAN ARGUE WITH A LIFE THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED.
C. JESUS STILL OPENS BLIND EYES.
For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.
THE GREATEST MIRACLE IS NOT PHYSICAL SIGHT, IT’S SPIRITUAL VISION.
WHEN JESUS OPENS YOUR EYES, YOU CAN NEVER SEE LIFE THE SAME WAY AGAIN.
