Introduction

Before we do anything else…take a piece of paper and write the word “YES” on the paper…then just hang on to it.
Battling doubt
Safe and secure!
1 John 5:10–14 ESV
10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

1) Salvation is from Jesus alone! (v. 10-11)

1 John 5:10–11 ESV
10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Context of this passage
Judaism v. The Way…
Those who truly believe Jesus is who He says He is and trusts Him has eternal life!
Search your own heart and answer this question: Do you believe that ONLY Jesus can save people and give them eternal life?
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Acts 4:12 ESV
12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

2) Salvation is held by Jesus alone! (v. 12-13)

1 John 5:12–13 ESV
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
Recognizing that Jesus is the Son of God leads us to life!
“Son of God”
It is a recognition of divinity, purpose, and ability to follow through.
It is expressing fully that Jesus is able to do what no person can do: Save and maintain salvation!
Jesus being the Son of God makes Him all together unique and fully able!
John 10:27–30 ESV
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
2 Timothy 1:8–14 ESV
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
Ephesians 1:11–14 ESV
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

3) Our Confidence Must Be in Him! (v. 14)

1 John 5:14 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
Our confidence is toward Him…not within us!
Our confidence is this: “that if we ask anything according to HIS WILL he hears us.”
What is the very first thing we ask according to His will?
“LORD JESUS SAVE ME!”
He hears our hearts in that prayer!
His desire and His will is to save sinners!
If we know that Jesus can…and we know that Jesus wants to…why would we think He could save everyone else, but not us?
You should never give yourself so much credit!
Your sin and your wicked heart is no match for the matchless grace and mercy found in the blood atonement of the Son of God!
It is Jesus who does the saving…it is Jesus who maintains and seals His salvation of us…
So the question is not “Can He?” the question is… “Is He?”
Is He the Son of God, mighty and able to save?
Is He willing to save any and all who would come to Him for life?
Is He THE Lord and Your Savior?
John 6:66–69 ESV
66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
Ephesians 6:13–18 ESV
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

Closing

The question of salvation is always “IS HE?” It’s never “Can He?” “Would He?” or even “Did I?”
No where in scripture do we see Christ nor the apostles point us to a moment in our past as our hope of salvation…it is always in the present, looking forward to a future.
My personal testimony with attacks of doubt!
How do you know Jesus is Lord of Your life?
Acknowledge He is the Son of God and implications of what that means!
Acknowledge that only He can save you and that He wants to save you (not based on what you’ve done, but on His sovereign desire alone)!
Acknowledge that as the God of all things, who is able to save and desires to save you, so place your faith, your trust, and your life in His hands!
Take that paper you wrote YES on at the beginning of the message. That YES is your allegiance…It is your control…It is your declaration of who is in charge of your life!
You currently hold it in your hands, but does it belong there?
If Jesus is the Lord of Your life, then during this time of response you bring that YES to the altar and leave it there for Jesus where you know it belongs.
Leave it with Him knowing that whatever His will and desire is for your life…He already has your answer….He already has your YES!
You may be here this morning and that YES has a different meaning for you…
In your heart of hearts, you know that YES, which represents control of your life, has been firmly fixed in your hands, but you also know you’ve made a mess of things and you need salvation!
You may have tried to give your YES to all kinds of other things only to realize it’s stayed in your hands and you’ve lost yourself with no relief.
This morning, if you’ve come to the end of yourself and you’re ready to finally give your YES over to Jesus and find life in Him, I’ll be standing over to the side. Come, bring your YES to Jesus and let’s hand it over to Him together!
IF YOU KNOW THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD, YOUR SALVATION AND YOUR CONFIDENCE THEN DURING THIS RESPONSE TIME COME PUT YOUR YES ON THE ALTAR WHERE YOU KNOW IT BELONGS…
IF YOU NEED TO TRUST JESUS WITH YOUR LIFE AND PLACE YOUR TRUST AND FAITH IN HIM I’LL BE OVER HERE ON THE SIDE…COME BRING YOUR YES AND LET’S GIVE IT TO JESUS TOGETHER!
