Understanding Salvation
Understanding Salvation
The Most Important Decision
Why Do We Need Salvation?
Why Do We Need Salvation?
Because we are guilty of sin
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
“one man”
Adam
Do to Adam’s sin we have inherited a sin nature that separates us from God
Because of the penalty for Adam’s sin
1 Corinthians 15:22 “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Death is the penalty for sin.
This death is not annihilation, it is the separation of the soul from the body.
Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
The second death is eternal separation from God in the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:14–15 “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
How did God provide salvation?
How did God provide salvation?
He sent His Son, Jesus Christ
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus was our substitute on the cross. the innocent died for the guilty
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Jesus was separated from God the Father so we would not be eternally separated from God the Father
Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”
Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
God offered sinful man the gift of eternal life
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
A gift is free
Ephesians 2:8–9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
A gift must be recieved personally
John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
What are the results of salvation?
What are the results of salvation?
The Penalty of our sin is removed.
Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
It’s because of our faith in Jesus Christ that we are Justified
We are forgiven
To be forgiven means that the debt of our sin in dropped and God chooses to remember our sins no more!
Jeremiah 31:34 “And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: For they shall all know me, From the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: For I will forgive their iniquity, And I will remember their sin no more.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
We are born into the family of God
John 3:7 “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
Trusting Christ is what makes us a child of God.
John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
We must experience 2 births, Physical and Spiritual, in order to experience only one death.
What happens after salvation?
What happens after salvation?
We follow Jesus
We allow Him to direct our attitudes, actions, and associations.
John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”
We obey Jesus
We find out what He wants us to do and do it.
1 John 2:3 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”
