Turn to Romans 5:8
Last week, we learned about who we were before salvation.
We saw that no measure of human goodness could help us meet God’s standard of righteousness. In summary, without Christ, we were hopeless!

The goal of this chapter is to show you the primary truths of God’s salvation.
Summarize chapter introduction on page 8: sin began when man rebelled against God in the Garden of Eden.

Salvation: the “saving” of a sinner from the judgment of sin and from the mastery of sin

Salvation is not just about a future home; it is just as much about a present victory!
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Condemned: declared guilty as sinners before a holy God
Who is condemned? Everyone who has not believed on Christ
When are they condemned? Already (John 3:18)

Justification: Christ’s righteousness put on my account.

Propitiation: satisfaction or appeasement of God’s wrath towards my sin
Christ perfectly lived every aspect of God’s law and was the perfect sacrifice for sin, thereby appeasing the wrath of God towards the sinner that believes on Christ.

We must realize that God loves us
Read Romans 5:8
When did God begin loving us? while we were still sinners
We love him, because he first loved us.

We must understand that all of us have sinned
“The worst form of badness is human goodness”
Question: why? Because human goodness is just subtle enough to keep us from accepting God’s gift of righteousness

We must recognize that death is the punishment for sin
Question: Why is death the punishment for sin?
Because death is the natural consequence of sin - Genesis 2:17
Because sin is an offence aimed directly at God
Because sin requires a sacrifice - the death of something or someone
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

We must realize that Jesus Christ died to pay the price
In obedience to the will of His Father, Jesus offered himself as the sacrifice for our sin.
Jesus had to die because death is required to atone for sin.

Conclusion
Tonight we have reviewed four key Bible truths about God’s salvation. No man would have ever devised a plan of salvation like this. No man would have ever come up with a plan of salvation that is entirely faith-based. Man’s ideas of salvation are all works-based.
Embrace God’s plan of salvation. Understand God’s plan of salvation. Rejoice in God’s plan of salvation! It is simple! It is beautiful! It is worth sharing!
