What is the kingdom of heaven?
In the simplest terms possible how would you answer that question?
22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

Review of forgiveness.
Recognizing the justice that supports our forgiveness.
The justice future.. that gives us the readiness to forgive.
Justice present that allows us to freely forgive.
Forgiveness to purification.
23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

The copies of the the things in the heavens?? What is that referring to?
5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”
——
Some debate on this one: “the heavenly things” what is that talking about?
We have been purified therefore we are counted as heavenly things. We belong more in heaven than we do here!
How do we differentiate between?
Earthly things
Copies of Heavenly things
Heavenly things
Heavenly things are sanctified by the blood of Christ. What around us is purified for heaven? What are some things we might wish were heavenly things (eternal) but really aren’t?
Knowing what is eternal and heavenly, how does that affect our priorities while we’re here on this earth?
The priority of the church is holy things, and the the only holy/ heavenly things on this earth are people!
What does that mean we are trying to sanctify? People!
What are some other things we might try to sanctify that simply aren’t going to heaven?
24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

What’s our assurance coming away from this verse?
We don’t need to keep coming with sacrifices.
Our sin is put away!
What does this mean for how we deal with sin?
a) God has put it away!
b) God needs to put it away. (There is still an ongoing sacrifice that needs to be made.)
c) I have put it away! (Is there a copy of things I’m trusting to deal with my sin?)
d) I need to put it away. (I need to find a sacrifice that needs to be made.)
Quick thoughts on the Lord’s Supper and it's purpose. The inauguration of the New Covenant surrounds this celebrations of the Lord’s Supper.
An appropriate declaration for the Lord’s Supper: “now at once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
A copy of things that cannot itself sanctify.
A standard for which we must sanctify ourselves.
A repeated sacrifice of Christ Himself.
Taking without regard to the Lord’s death at all!
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Take the Lord’s Supper is done with anticipation of the Lord’s Coming.
The nature of the New Covenant is anticipatory of the eternal kingdom.
We’re oriented toward the heavenly things, because this is a heavenly kingdom.
27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

How is it that the church can eagerly await the coming of Christ and judgement? Who eagerly awaits judgement?
We anticipate salvation without reference to sin… What does that mean?
What is it we’re being delivered (saved) from?
We have been saved from sin. That’s why we don’t need to fear judgement.
We’re going to be saved from the brokenness of the world.
We’re going to be saved from all the curses of sin that still hinder us who have been made holy.
We’re going to be saved from all the influences of the devil.
conclusion:
What are the things we ought to eagerly pursue.
What are the things we eagerly wait for?
22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
