Sunday Mar 15, Lakeshore
When is spring break week? You have your Bibles go ahead and open to Luke chapter 4 as we continue our series that you may know. But before you do that, I just want to start our service.
Just to communicate a few things. I think it's important at Tom's to address what's happening in the world. I don't think you come to church to get a political commentary or a news update every time you come to church, that's that's not what the pulpit is for. But I do think there are times that warrants your, your pastor is an Elder's commenting on things. We have, if you've been at Lakeshore Church very long, we've set out chaplains from our church. We have to Chaplin's in the airport right now. We have do we have Josh both military chaplains and what's going on right now? The world is his, his affects them, one is specifically affected, one of our chaplains, as we've lost several members, like, 12 people so far had died in what's happening in Iran. A medieval the National Guard, some of the plane that crashed this week and with all that's going on. And what's happening in the I want you to hear from your pastor in and just hear what I think it's important to think through, in times, like these without something becoming political. So let me just be very clear that I don't want to diminish people losing life, whether it be innocent people dying in Iran or whether it be our brave men and women who are in the military that we come to a church service and not acknowledge what's happening. So this is what I want to say everything about what's happening in the world. I want to say as a pastor, we can't have a nuclear-armed, Iran. And I want to say that clearly because I have friends that live in that part of the world, There's a regime in Iran that is different from the people of Iran and a regime in Iran has said for 47 years that they want the destruction of another country mean, if a nuclear bomb fellow Tel Aviv today. 3 million people could do an instant. I do that, that would be a tragedy of Epic Proportions. You have a regime that a President Who denied the Holocaust, never happened to deny. That the Holocaust at the extermination of six million Jews never happened. There was a former leader that absolutely was a proponent and Advocate that never really happened and for 47 years, every political group that scum to, but they're be democrat or republican has all said that there can't be a nuclear-armed Iran. And what we know is that they were very much working towards having a nuclear bomb. So, if you think about what's going on, those are serious things in the world today and I don't want to I'm not doing that. I just want to acknowledge what's real half. What's really happening? What's going on it? As church people. We pray. Everyone's made in the image of God, people are valuable to the Lord. We we should want people's lives to be spared and saved and we should never want the loss of life because as Christians, we recognize the value of life, we also live in a broken in a fallen world. So as your past I don't want to say that today as I think about what's going on when I see what's going on. And I know that real people are suffering through this that we have an opportunity to stop the pause. Ant spray. And lift these things up to the Lord. In fact, the Bible calls us to do that 1st, Timothy 2:1 through to first of all. Then Paul sister Timothy urged that petitions prayers and intersections, and Thanksgiving be made for everyone for kings and all those who are in Authority this morning as we start our service. Let's do petition, the Lord and let's do pray for kings. And those are in a party and that we would pray that God would guard the innocent that God would protect the men and women that are serving and that God would get glory in this broken situation in a way that only he can. And may we recognize that I've asked David one of our elders, just to stop for a moment and lead us in a word of Prayer.
Play with me. Father in Heaven, you are a god of strength, you're a God of Peace, you are a god of faithfulness and Lord of, we know that you are providentially in control of everything that we see going on around us even when the circumstances are heart-wrenching and tragic. Got a, we know you care for your people. Lord, we recognize we live in a world that is intrinsically affected by the Brokenness and Distortion of sin. And we see that evil is all around us. Father, we give I give you praise when we see that, they are brave men and women willing to push back against evil and to fight for protection of innocent life. Lord, we ask for the sake of your children for your creatures that you have made in your image Lord. We pray towards peace. Or we recognize that that peace may come with Sirius costs. But God we thank you for the way that you are in control. Lord, we know that the king's heart is like a stream of water in the hand of the Lord. You turn it, wherever you will. So we confess and we acknowledge that despite though, the nation's rage and people fighting Bane, you sit in heaven. Have the final say, God, you are, you are the one who directs all world events, no matter how heart-wrenching and tragic, Lord. We our hearts go out to the people that are most immediately affected by this. And God, we pray for protection, we pray for peace. We pray to end of wars and conflicts. I'm in Lord, we pray that peace would endure. Our hope is not in this life or in Earthly peace. But Lord, we are looking forward to a day where you are making all things new where every knee will bow. And every tongue confess That Jesus Christ is Lord Lord, prepare our hearts. Now in the midst of what's going on to worship, use your church Man, thank you. Pastor David. Elder David.
Here's our series intro, as we continue through the Book of Luke. I hope you guys enjoy this. I was thinking this week, we're just in chapter five right now or in the middle of chapter 5, and we got a long year ahead of us and it's going to be a good year. I would love this series so far. So here's our series intro for this morning which is the same series intro. We read every week, Luca beloved position missionary companion of Paul, and careful historian, writes his gospel. So that Believers would have certainly about Jesus Christ and the Salvation. He brings address to Theophilus and read it. And I witness testimony Luke's account shows that the gospel is not myth or speculation. But God's real work in history, his purpose is clear so that you may know the certainty of the things about what you have been instructed, Luke 14. It's been are driving theme through the spirit inspired narrative, we come to behold the identity of Christ, the unfolding of God's Redemptive plan the nature of discipleship and The Miz Of the Kingdom. This series is an invitation for Lakeshore Church to Anchor. Our faith, hope and obedience in the reliable word of God and the trustworthy savior. So here's our last week, Pastor Greg. If you guys were here last week and a fantastic job, Luke 4:14 and 30 where we saw Jesus returned to his hometown. He went to his home town of Nazareth. There he entered the synagogue. He read from Isaiah chapter 61 and he said there's a Luke 4:21 today. As you listen to scripture, has been fulfilled, Jesus literally, talkin about what he had come to do in the Fulfillment of that Jesus publicly revealed, he is the promised Messiah yet, the people who knew him, best rejected him. And that story last week, what began, with admiration about Jesus quickly, turned into hostility towards Jesus and the crowd actually attempt to throw him off a cliff in Nazareth. Nazareth. Now, we've moved some Nazareth, and he goes to a no-sew capernium out, and I won't you The baby underlined with your mom when you get an opportunity capernium, is the Hub. It's the base of operations for Jesus's Ministry in the New Testament. And instead of rejection here, we see his authority. We see his power, we see his compassion and we see his calling. So here's my sermon title for today power and compassion and we got a lot. So buckle up we have a lot of verses today. Luke 4:31 through 5:16. We're going to look at all of that today. This section serves as a purpose that Luke would record for Theophilus that you may know that's exactly what's Happening Here. Luke starts this letter out the office that you may know and then this section it's like Luca saying that you may know these things about Jesus that you may know about his power that you may know about his authority that you may know about his healing that you may know about his power over demonic forces that you may know about his calling. That you may know about his commissioning. So that's the thing that I've chosen in this passage. These weren't just impressive stories that lives trying to communicate to the APA. Listen to us, they were evident. You don't miss this. All the what we're going to see today is evidence that Jesus possesses the authority of God himself because he is God. And that's what Luke is communicating Kirito sword. In his teaching, his word commanded the spiritual realm, his touch restore the broken and his compassion reach the outcast by presenting these events together, Luke helps the awfulest. Eat at The Gospel has been has has rest on the undeniable Authority and compassionate power of Jesus Christ. The one who proclaims the kingdom is the very one who has the power to bring it. So here's your servant proposition for today because Jesus has authority over the physical. Spiritual and natural world and that is all seen in these texts. Today, we should stand and all that. He is, he is alone. Lord, we should stand at all. That he alone is Lord. One of the things Luke is doing is validating, that Jesus is God. It doesn't here because of his compassion towards Humanity, we should also be compelled to emulate his example. So that's our sermon proposition for the day, Roman numeral one. That you all of my points today are going to be with another thing that you made up that you may know his authority and healing that you may know his authority and healing and I put our passage all of our texts together. I would love to come together that deal with this particular topic. So that would be luke 4:31 to 41 and Luke chapter 5 verses 12 through 16, these all go together. Live Begins by showing us the power. Party of Jesus over the spiritual and physical world. So, here's the first one. We're going to see in verses 31 through 32. I'm going to preach to little different today. I'm just going to take it one section at a time. The first thing we see, is a starting to look at verses 31 32. Then he went down to capernum a town in Galilee, and he was teaching them on the Sabbath. They were at his teaching because his message had Authority. They were astonished at his teaching, because his message had Authority, the scribes and other religious leaders. Here's what are the things they were known to do. They would quote other scribes and other rabbis. So it's a rabbi's during this day would have been known for their teaching of the word of God often and they're using what other rabbis had said in the past. Unlike those scribes who often quoted those other rabbis. She is as he speaks with Divine Authority, and Jesus speaks with Divine Authority and he Spoke with Divine Authority because he is the Lord of scripture. He's the Lord of scripture and he's not just an interpreter of scripture. He's the author of scripture and in, what are they tested on his? We see of Jesus teaching in the New Testament. People were constantly Amazed by his wisdom and his teaching John chapter 1 verses 1 through 3 says in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God. The Word was God, he was with God in the beginning. All things were created to him and apart from him. Not one thing was created that has been created here in John. Jesus is actually identified as the Eternal Word logos. I have a Bible study program. I've been using for a long time, it's called the logos logos, and that Greek word logos is a, is a word that describes the Eternal Living Word of the Lord Jesus is the divine revelation of God's word. Jesus is the living embodiment of God's word. He is God and he spoke with the authority of God. So the first thing that Luke shows here is Jesus talked with a n e. Teaches the word of God with authority because he is gone. And he's the living embodiment of the Eternal Word of the Lord. Don't miss that. When you think about the Lord, Jesus, Jesus is the fullness of God, and when Jesus is teaching, and he's teaching the word, we should not wonder why people were in amazement and all he's the living breathing word of God and body and he teaches and he has a farting in his teaching. Not only does he have a thought he was teaching his authority over demons will see this theme throughout the ministry of the Lord Jesus over demons looking verses 33 through 37 in the synagogue in Capernaum still there. There was a man with an unclean Demonic Spirit who cried out with a loud voice. Leave us alone. Don't miss the grammar there. Leave us alone. There's evidently plurality in the demons. In this person. Leave us alone. What do you have to do with us? Jesus of Nazareth. Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. The Holy One Of God, but Jesus rebuked him and said be silent and come out of him and throwing him down before them. The demon came out of him without hurting him at all. Amazement came over all of them, I should say. So and they were saying to one another, what is this message? He commands the unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out and news about him began to go out to every place in the vicinity. This demon-possessed man and a rough stuff. The service in the synagogue Jesus's be silent and come out of him. And what happens in the story again, what is Lou doing? He's communicating the authority and power of Jesus. The authority of Jesus's words, because of who he is, the authority of beautiful, power of Jesus, over the spiritual round, Cheese's, has be silent and come out of him. What happens, the demon open face, Jesus instantly, and what you see in the New Testament, is every time Jesus commands and I clean Spirit, or demonic force, or demonic demons. They immediately obey and do what Jesus commands, Luke record the crowd's response here. They say, what is this message for? He commands. The unclean spirits. With what they say, the crowd. Say He commands. The unclean spirits. In verse, 36, with authority and power. And they came out. So the crowd, see the authority in the power of Jesus. Jesus, demonstrated, absolute authority of the spiritual realm, demons recognize, what many humans, by the way, refuse to see and it is you just track that narrative through the New Testament. Jesus, encountering demons. It's amazing for me to recognize that in every demonic encounter Jesus has the Demonic Realm. Nose and always responds to the authority of Christ. If you track that Narrative of Jesus encountering the Demonic realm and scripture demons, always acknowledge the authority of Christ and they respond and they do what he says to do. It shows his power, it shows his authority. What we find in scripture, it's humans that resist this truth. And I don't want to encourage you one this morning cuz you think about that picture of how demons respond to Jesus. They responded Jesus as the absolute authority of the world. Yet often it's us, he resist that truth. That Jesus has all authority in, Jesus has all power. You think about even in this room, this morning, their hearts and Minds that are resistant to the authority of Jesus.
Across this room. They're our hearts and Minds that are resistant to the authority and the power of Jesus. That is an indictment on us. When the Demonic realm has no such issue, they respond to the authority and the power of Jesus. Why? Because he is the Lord. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord. And a heart and mind that is resistant to the authority and power of Jesus is resistant to the Lord. Jesus is either Lord of all or he's not Lord at all. Jesus is either Lord of all or he's not Lord at all. Luke is showing Theophilus that Jesus is Lord of all. He is Lord and his authority of teaching, he's Lord and his authority, over the Demonic and spiritual realm. Don't miss what Luke is doing for Theophilus. He is creating a robust christology. That is what Luke is doing. Luke is saying Jesus is Lord. See you in a CG Jesus is Lord. See it in his power, over the demons in a demonic forces. Jesus is Lord. And he's giving these examples of even the demons saying Jesus is Lord, which should really challenged us to ask ourselves. Why are we say? Jesus is Lord more often with our life and our actions because he is Lord. Authority over demons. He has Authority in his teaching, he has authority over disease, look at vs. 38 + 41. After he left the synagogue, he entered Simon's house. This is, Peter Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever and they asked him about her verse 39. So he stood over her and he rebukes the fever and it left her She got up immediately to get to serve them when the sun was setting. All those who had anyone to stick with, looking for his 41st 40, such a transition, Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law. And after this happened, the sun setting. All those who had anyone stick with various diseases brought them to him and he laid his hands on them. Each one of them, he healed them also demons were coming out of the mini shouting and Son of God. But he rebuked them would not allow him to speak because they knew he was the Messiah one of the Wonderful things, you get to see when you go to compare them, if you ever get to go on a trip to Israel and I hope that opens up again. One day, did you go to Capernaum and they have a historical Church Catholic Church that they hasn't over the traditional spot of Jesus healing Peter's mother-in-law. I can go there this day somewhere. I like to tell people. That's why those places that you can go to and stay somewhere in this general area. Jesus did that Miracle? You can stand it apart of the day. And think about all these Miracles and all the teachings and all the things, the Lord Jesus did. Even In this passage, I hear Jesus heals Peter's mother telling Peter's mother-in-law. There's over her rebuke, the spirit leaves her and and what do you miss this picture Lugia's. The whole city gathers as a response to what Jesus does here. The disease is sick, flu into Texas. Says, the Sun is setting about sunset this happens. People from all over that are sick and diseased. Start pouring into Jesus, Jesus begins to heal everyone who needed healing and don't miss this detail. A 40-minute. Hope you start with in your Bibles. It says each one, each one. No one was left out what a moment. Every one of these disease, sick people that needed healed. Luke gives us this little detail, every single one of them. Jesus heals, everybody in the healing field. What an incredible moment to see the ministry of the Lord, Jesus, and the power of the Lord Jesus in healing in Jesus. Apparently spends all night and a healing service here. Cuz it says it goes all the way to the next morning. If you were, we get to the next text Jesus.
Receives the sick, the disease. And he received each one. No one was left out what an incredible moment is. The next thing we see? Jesus has the authority to cleanse the unclean so he has the authority and its teaching, he has a farty over demons. He has a 30 over hell and he has authority to cleanse the unclean. This is more than just Him healing a person hear Jesus, gives this powerful picture of how he receives the outcasts of the world. Chapter 5. So go to chapter 5, we're going to skip a section. Going to come back to it. I'm going to deal with it. Luke chapter 5 verses 12 through 16. And again hang with me think about how Luke is riding to the office and he's creating this robust christology. Jesus has Authority in his teaching because he's God, Jesus has authority over the Demonic realm because he's got, Jesus has authority over the Physical Realm, our bodies because he is God, Jesus has Authority, and so much Authority that the people of the day who were the most outcast in the world. It was a death sentence to have leprosy. Jesus heals those people as well. Forget verses 12 through 16 in chapter 5, while he was there who had leprosy all over him. Don't ever miss out on the text. This man didn't have like a spot of leprosy on his finger. He had leprosy all over him. That is a death sentence. In the first century, a man was there who had leprosy all over him. He saw Jesus fell face-down, apparently. The word of Christ is is just running rapid in the town. He fell down face down and begged him Lord if you are willing. You can make me clean.
Jesus reaching out his hand touched him. Saying I am willing to make clean and immediately the leprosy left him. That he ordered him to tell. No one but go and show yourself to the previous an offer that Moses commanded for your cleansing. I just had somebody. Do you go back to the Mosaic law? What are the things you would have to do? If you had leprosy as? You'd have to go prove yourself to the freeze, man, that would check you from towed to hair on the top of your head. They would expect you and look you over because you could not be in the community of Israel. If you had some type of deformity or you had some type of sickness, they didn't want you in the community that would have had to go do that to be giving up a literally a certificate of being rasera monial, religiously clean. the news about him spread even more verse 15 and large crowds would come together to hear him and be healed of their sicknesses yet he often withdrew to a deserted place and pray The story of healing this guy with Leprosy leprosy represented, the ultimate form of Social and ceremonial exclusion. If you had that, it was a horrible thing in the lepers were supposed to be separated and cut off from the society. They were without question some of the most Outkast people in the ancient world. It was a death sentence to be in contact with the leper and then think about how the audience would read this story. When you see what Luke writes. Luke record this, I popping moment as Jesus does something astounding and no one else would ever think of doing. Look at March 13th. This leprous, man, covered in leprosy. No one would want to touch this, man. No one would do that.
Can you imagine? How the crowd? Had to react to Jesus reaching out and touching this man covered in leprosy. Reaching out his hand, Jesus touchdown. Nobody touched lepers, but Jesus did. And the result of Jesus touching this leper, his leprosy left him. The Holiness and righteousness and authority of Jesus cleanses. This leper there is a parallel picture in the story of Jesus cleansing us. Do not miss that. There is a parallel story of Jesus cleansing Us in the story. The leprosy left him. I guess if you have kids long enough, you're always going to watch a Disney movie, this is an oldie, but goodie.
Hunchback of Notre. Dame anybody ever seen that one? It's like a lot of people know that one as well as back of Notre Dame. There's a scene in The Hunchback of Notre Dame where the Gypsy Esmeralda. Sings a song, the song is called, God helps the outcast. If you remember that, in the Disney version, God help the outcasts, and you've got cartoon character Quasimodo, who we know the story Quasimodo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Head deformities. No one wanted to touch him, he lived up in the tower by himself. He was an outcast. Quasimodo listens in that small. Listen to, that movie to Esmeralda singing, the song, God help the outcasts and he's overwhelmed by those words. That God would help the outcasts.
Let's not let it be in our lives. That we don't get overwhelmed. When we think about the truth, that Christ has help the outcasts. And I just want to encourage you in that truth. You and I were once Out cast. But in Christ, we are forgiven. We are accepted and we are adopting. What a parallel picture of Jesus healing this Outcast of aside, the siding showing his authority in a power again that he is Lord. He's not only Lord over health and healing, he is Lord over something as plugging as leprosy, Jesus is Lord and all of this section. This first section we see and I know it's a lot.
We see something significant. I want to give you a closing call. Luke emphasizes Jesus has power and authority here, but he's doing power and authority, and is teaching power and authority. Over team has power and authority over our bodies, power and authority in a minute. It's going to be over the natural world of fish power and authority over leprosy. Luke is making a case. He has all power and all authority. That is what he is doing. Luke emphasizes Jesus Tower. An authority, but don't miss this. It's magnified and manifest. Jesus power and authority is magnified and manifested through compassion. And Jesus has power and authority, Lucas conveying something here, Lucas conveying, the power and authority of Jesus, but it is manifested and magnet in. Jesus has compassion and Ministry in the world, he lives. And I don't think you need to miss that. And I really do want to warn us today. I want to warm myself and I want to warn you
when we seek a power in this world, that doesn't manifest compassion in Ministry. A power that doesn't manifest compassion. Ministry is a worldly power, it's not a kingdom power. We are called to be Kingdom citizens, who model? The Compassion Ministry of Jesus and I really want you to think on that this morning is often times and we think about the world we live in. We long for power we long for Authority places of position and prominence and platformer huge in our culture. Jesus is the Lord of power and authority and his power and authority is not manifested in destruction in overthrowing the Romans. His power and authority is manifested and magnified and compassionate Ministry but I think that is a good word for the church today. Don't miss how Jesus power and authority is often magnified and manifested in scripture. It's magnified and manifested through his compassion. His love for others that everyone was touched it needed it, that this Who was the outcast of the day needed it. Jesus with him, Jesus manifests and magnified his power and his authority Austin times in the New Testament to his compassion and his ministry. May, we do the same and may we not get caught up in a world desire for a power, that's not a kingdom power.
We all Listen to. I Love The Theology of Paul, but a Theology of Paul, that doesn't manifest, The Compassion of Jesus is a deficient biblical theology. Let me send it again. I see ology of Paul that doesn't manifest. The Compassion of Jesus is a division deficient biblical. Theology may we recognize that Jesus is who we look to as the Lord of all.
We say the authority and compassion of Jesus expressed to the healing and deliverance. Now, Luke record the purpose and mission of Jesus that you may know track with me, think about him riding to the office. That you may know his purpose and Mission looking for a size 42 and 44, in chapter 4. So we can go back. So back up. Jesus has healed, Peter's mother-in-law that started to happen at Sunset and it says that everybody started coming to him at Sunset all the people that were sick and diseased. People had demons are all coming to him. Look at what it says in verse 42 when it was dead. So what do that mean? When it was a long day? He went out and made his way to a deserted place. We often see Jesus doing this, but the crowds were searching for him. They came to him and try to keep him from leading them, but he said it is not necessary. It is, it is necessary for me to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God to the other towns. Also, because I was sent for this purpose and he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea. So this all night, healing Services happened Crowds Are clamoring to keep Jesus there, and I want to keep this thing going on. Jesus try to get off by himself a little bit. And he tells them his purpose and he tells them is mission after he's healed people all night long, we see. And we seen that the word of his power spread the crowds finding, they want to keep him from leaving and Luke record of Jesus saying. This, it is necessary for me to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God to the other towns. Also, because I was sent for this purpose. Three things to see in respond to this text three things to see in response to his number one Jesus reveals for us the priority of the mission. The priority of the mission that says it is necessary for me. It is necessary for me that literally could be said this way. It's a Divine necessity for Jesus lady language. It's a Divine necessity for Jesus, this mission is of utmost importance. The mission of proclaiming the king of is an optional for Jesus. It is the driving priority of Jesus's Ministry. Don't miss this. This is the driving priority Jesus himself. It's sometimes, what was the mission? What was the purpose? We have a price on word, hear the purpose and mission of his ministry. And he says this ministry isn't necessary for me. It was a priority to hear the purpose of the mission. The purpose of the mission to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God. Jesus. Is it a priority that this happened? And here is the purpose of the mission to proclaim the Good news about the kingdom of God, 1. Arthur author writes, this. He put it this way at the simplest. The kingdom of God is the result of God's mission to rescue and renew. His send Mark creation, the kingdom of God is about Jesus, our King establishing, his Rule and Reign Over all creation, just feeding the human and Angelic evil Powers, bringing order to all and acting Justice and being worshipped as Lord. The kingdom is about the journey and a destination, both our rescue operation in this broken world and a perfect outcome in the new Earth to come. But I was already started and not yet, finished brothers and sisters. The good news. The kingdom of God has been inaugurated by Jesus. He is the king of that Kingdom. He has defeated, send death, and the gray, there is an empty tomb. There is an occupied thrown that Jesus. It's on this very moment. One day he is returning, he will judge the living and the dead. He will consummate his physical Kingdom. Will rule forever and ever, Jesus came to Proclaim that Kingdom, the good news of the Kingdom. The good news of the kingdom is that our sins can be forgiven from this King. I sent can be forgiven, through repentance and faith in Jesus. Jesus had a mission. It was a necessary Mission. It was the priority of his mission to tell people of this, good news that they can have in this Kingdom. The kingdom of God where Jesus is King in the only way you get into that Kingdom. And the only way Jesus is going to be, your savior is through repentance and faith in that Kingdom. That is the good news that our sins can be forgiven. If we can be with Jesus forever. And here's the propagation of omission, propagation means to extend makes the go forth. Not that you don't already all know that. I'm just checking The propagation of the mission, that the only tea that I could come up with my email casares.
It works. It works. Look at what the text says to the other towns also. To the other towns also. The propagation of the mission means to extend and go forth. Praise God. Listen, when you read this text, praise God. That the mission just wasn't for Kaepernick. Praise God, the commission, was it unclean? Spirits and demons? We're going to have Heaven here on Earth and our little Utopia in Capernaum, where I will be Lord, and Rule and I will be king. Praise God. That is not the kingdom. We read about in the Bible, the kingdom of God, the message of the Gospel. Jesus says, must go for my Ministry in my mission. He says, must go to the other towns, as well as the neighbors. Need to hear about it across the street and around the world. He needs to go from the neighborhood to the nation's. That's the propagation of the Gospel of the Lord, Jesus Christ. That is the mission, the mission and purpose of Christ. Sesame from Jesus. He says that it is about the good news of Jesus coming into this world, being all God, and all man dying on the cross defeating send death and the grave him going to the Grave ascending to Heaven coming back again, one day, that is the good news of the Kingdom for us. And we did it tell that good news of the Kingdom that people can have a life forgiveness and eternal life in Christ. Jesus, our lord in that Kingdom and we need to tell every neighbor and we need to give to the nation's. That message is worth sharing and it's worth going for
Praise God. It just wasn't for kapono. The mission of Jesus refuse to allow the gospel to remain confined to one place. Or one people in the Kingdom. Message is meant to advance from town to town into the nation's. if you're here today and you don't care about the mission of Christ, If you're here today, you don't care about the mission of cry. If you must be honest and say this, you are not Faithfully following Jesus. If you are here today and you do not care about the mission of Christ, you must be honest and say you are not Faithfully following Jesus. Jesus gives us his purpose and his mission and he calls us. He, he leaves us with the Great Commission go, therefore and Make Disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, son, Holy Spirit, we have been commissioned to continue on his ministry of proclaiming. The kingdom of God Called to do. That is not the great suggestion.
We've seen the authority and compassion of Christ. We've seen the mission of Christ and now Luke shows up the calling a commission of Christ that you may know his calling and commission. Look at chapter 5, verses 1 through 11 chapter 5 verses 1 through 11.
Finishes that section in chapter 4, as the crowd was pressing in on Jesus, to hear God's word, he was standing by Lake. Ganesa rent, which is the Sea of Galilee. He saw two boats at the edge of the lake. The fishermen had left them and we're watching their Nets. He got into one of the boats which belonged to Simon. He asked him to put out a little from the land that he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. I love this picture of water and let your nets down for a catch for spot Master, Simon replied, we've worked hard all night long, we got everything, but if you say, so I'll let down the desk. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish and their Nets. Begins to put a number on it. Let's begin to tear for 7, so they signal to their Partners, the other boats come and help them, they came and killed their boats hopeful that they begin to stink. When Simon Peter saw. This he fell because I am a sinful man. Lord, Forget all those who are with him and we're amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken. And so were James and John Zebedee sons, who were Simon's Partners, Don't Be Afraid. Jesus told, Simon, from now on, you'll be catching people from translation, say you'll be Fishers of Men but they brought the boats to land and left everything. And I followed him, they brought their bugs to land, they left everything, and they followed him. This is the call of the first disciples also. This is an all the synoptic gospels, maybe three thought she was Jesus demonstrate his power. Luke. Christology. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord of the teaching, he's God, he teaches his authority. Jesus is Lord over help, he can heal people, Jesus is Lord over the spiritual realm, demons know who Jesus is Lord over the natural realm, he can tell you to go out of the boat. Stop right here. Passed out your nets and all the fish come running. That's who can do that. Jesus, why can he do that? Because he's Lord, He commands. He has all power and all authority over everything. Please, don't miss, what Lucas doing.
For some of us in this rain, we do not have a robust, christology. We read these stories. And boys are good Sunday, school lessons for us friends. These are more than story. This is the Living Word of God, where Luke is writing a compelling narrative for his friend Theophilus, and he is staying through these encounters, he's recording about Jesus, that Jesus is Lord, only Jesus can do these types of things and he does these types of things because he's got
The catch any fish seasons have gone a little bit. And they literally think the boats. I went fishing because there's a side. Jeremiah that is a beautiful red fish right there. Pretty good. Luck the song right there, too, but that is a beautiful red ribbon is upset because I took Jeremiah out of school and Ruben had to go to school right now, but we'll work through it. We had the most incredible that we stopped at once with this all day long.
And week we literally caught three-person limit out of this one spot. That was like, 10 ft wide is crazy. I mean, we couldn't stop catching. It was unbelievable.
Unbelievable day.
The Disciples of the fishing all night. Thanks. Thanks. And Jesus tells him to go a little bit, drop their Nets and they catch all these space. What is Jesus doing? He is demonstrating his power that the miraculous break into my boat was sinking. And then we would
It's a miraculous event, it's a miraculous catch a fish that Jesus allows the disciples to have, which revealed his authority over Creation in the natural world and Peter response to respond Peter response to this in a way that reflects some Peter's response. Reflects this Jesus, you are bored. As he's saying, he's saying these things because Perfect Peter fashion, who is often, you know, got to split his mouth. May be down here a little bit in their feeder sees Peter start out the story about sang, Jesus.
Let me tell you how efficient Works. We've been out here all night Jesus, we ain't called nothing. So you're telling us if we go over here, you know, where to catch the haters, trying to tell Jesus that I know more about fishing and the noodle and cheese and we go ahead and get to the spot Jesus's. Drop your nuts and she's a shows Peter. His authority in lordship, Peter is a systole responding that that's his responses responses to fall down when he says go away. Free because I'm a simple man, Peter recognizes the lordship, the authority of the Holiness of Christ in this moment and his responses I want to work. That's his response. I'm unworthy. I meant. Don't you? Don't you love Jesus's response to this Jesus's response to Peter's moment of. I am unworthy. I'm a simple, man. You are Lord. Don't be afraid. Which, which should lead us to recognize. It's more than just Peter saying. I'm a simple man. Peter must be genuinely fearful about what happened because it was such a miraculous moment. Apparently, he ain't never seen anything like what? Just happened. Jesus said, don't be afraid. and then lastly, we see Jesus calls and commissions, his disciples looking verses 10 through 11,
if you look at the text, you see several people in the story, you see Peter You see James and John Zebedee Sons. They were Simon's Partners. This is often part of what the synoptic gospels call. The first called Disciples Jesus calls and commissions them here at the end of this. He says, from now on, you'll be catching people some translations, say you now will be Fishers of Men. All four gospels record the calling of the first disciples. Luke chapter 5 verses 1 through 11, Matthew Chapter 4 verses 18 through 22. Mark chapter 1 verses 16 through 20 in in Luke 1:35 251. Each one of the authors, give a different perspective on the story, but it all says the same thing. Christ called Ordinary People to follow him and obedience. And he calls them to become Fishers of Men. All the stories have that he calls ordinary people to follow him and he caused them to become Fishers of Men and in all of the counts although it's worded a little differently. They wanted all the accounts. You know what they all? Did they all day? And most of the counts they they did it immediately. Jesus calls and commissions them and they leave their boats. They leave their nuts. And they'll bag Luke writes, all of these things that the office might know for certain that Jesus was the Christ and follow him accordingly.
My question to you is what is hindering you from obeying and following Jesus today? Is there pretty soon? Comes up here to repair prop? Lord, thank you for revealing Jesus as the Lord with both oriti and compassion. Help us to stand in all this power. Submit to his word and reflect his Mercy to those around us by your spirit. Lead us to follow Christ faithfully and participate in his mission in Jesus name. Amen. 321 out loud but continue to Worship the Lord in our prayer moment.
