For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died more than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
What then shall we say to these things?
What then shall we say to these things?
What is the ultimate point of this chapter?
Given all the things arguments Paul has made what are we to take away from this section of the letter?
No Condemnation - There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
No Excuses - For all who are led by the spirit are the Sons of God.
No Pain - For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
No Fear - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good.
Paul answers his question with Five rhetorical questions
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Q1. If God be for us, who can be against us?
Who can stand against God?
Can Man?
How many times has Man tried and failed to stand against God and his chosen?
Paul himself is proof of that.
Can devils?
That’s a joke
We see servants of God, normal men, cast out Devils in the bible through the power of God
Can satan?
He could not even stand against another angel let alone God
But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”
Can nature?
All of creation is his and is subject to him.
He made it, he controls the very building blocks of creation
Remember the Disciples and Jesus in the boat?
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Q2. He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
If God did not hold back his only Son, what makes us think that He will not take care of us, of you?
Are you so blind to think that the God who loved you so much that he gave everything to redeem you won’t be there in your time of need?
Or that he won’t protect you when needed?
Or that he won’t take care of you?
How many times did Jesus try to beat that message into the disciples' heads.
Loves & Fish
Storms on the Water
If I were to give you an expensive Dimond, would I say no to you if you asked for a box to put it in?
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Q3. Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?
It is God who justifies.
Man’s witness has no authority in God’s courtroom.
Its worthless - full of failures and biases
satan - the accuser’s arguments are impotent against God’s judgement.
Christ - He is the only one who can, and He has taken your sin upon you
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died more than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Q4. Who is to condemn?
Christ Jesus is the one who died more than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Man’s rules have no power over the Blood of Christ
satan is condemned, he has no legal authority
he may try to condemn us before God, but his condemnation is washed away by Christ
his condemnation is solely to try and prevent you from realizing who you are in God
Christ
He is your defense counsel
He is the one who paid the price
He is the one who is interceding with the Father for us
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Q5. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Persecution or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
If your name is written down in God’s book of life, there nothing that can stand against you for the God of all creation protects you!
If you are his child there is nothing he won’t do for you!
If you are washed by the Blood of Christ no Charge or Condemnation has any authority over, you!
If you are his and, in his will, No Weapon formed against you will prosper.
“I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of destruction. And I have created the armies that destroy. But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
