Community- Rooted.
Hebrews 10
Hebrews 10:19–25 ESV
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
1. Our Confidence Is Rooted in Christ’s Finished Work (vv. 19–21)
“Since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus…” (Hebrews 10:19, ESV)
Leviticus 10:1–2 (ESV) says:
“Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.”
We are invited to draw near.
Hebrews does not just say we have access. It tells us why.
“We have a great priest over the house of God” (Hebrews 10:21, ESV).
Melchizedek appears briefly in Genesis 14. He is called both king of Salem and priest of God Most High.
2. Our Stability Is Rooted in a Shared Confession
Hebrews 10:23 says —“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful”
Proverbs 27:17 nails it: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
David and Jonathan
Caleb and Joshua
3. Our Growth Is Rooted in Intentional Commitment to One Another
Verse 25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) reminds us, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” God did not give spiritual gifts so they could sit unused. He gave them so the church could be strengthened.
Why is it important that our confidence with God comes from what Jesus has done, not from how well we think we are doing spiritually?
What pressures in our culture today make it harder for Christians to stand firm in their faith?
The verse says our hope is secure because God is faithful. How does remembering God’s faithfulness help when life feels uncertain?
Why do you think the Bible tells believers not to stop meeting together?
How can the church help believers stay strong in their faith when life gets difficult?
What are some ways people slowly drift into spiritual isolation, even if they still call themselves Christians?
How have other Christians helped you grow in your faith?
Verse 24 says we should encourage each other to love and do good works. What might that look like in everyday life?
