Hook: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Tension:

El-Shaddai: God Almighty.

Ancient name of God generally translated as God Almighty.
Intepreted to mean “God of the (cosmic) mountain.”
This is the name by which the patriarchs new God of the fathers. Who would later be identified as yahweh.
It is used in covenants of circumcision. Also used in blessing formulas. (Genesis 43:14 “And may God Almighty grant you mercy before the man so that he will let your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved.”” )
Wraps in the ideas of SOVEREIGNTY. PROVISION. STRENGTH. MIGHT.
The one able to provide.
Often related to Covenant and God’s promise-fulfilling aspect.
This is the CHARACTER of GOD.
Jesus once found himself behind a rock in a hard place. (in the grave)
What happend to the rock (stone)? it was rolled away.
What happened to the hard place. It became a place of victory.
God has been working as GOD ALMIGHTY in the background. Not just for joseph, but also for the family.
