This week we are in JOhn 14. Once again, Jesus is at the table with his disciples. Just a chapter earlier, he told his disciples twice that he is going away. In John 12:33 he says, “Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you, “Where I am going, you cannot come.” From this, there’s some questions. They want to know what Jesus means, they want to know where he could possibly be going. So in John 12:36 we find a short conversation with Peter and Jesus. It says, “Lord,” Simon PEter said to him, “where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”
John 14:1–6 CSB
“Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. You know the way to where I am going.” “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 12:36 CSB
While you have the light, believe in the light so that you may become children of light.” Jesus said this, then went away and hid from them.
John 12:33 CSB
He said this to indicate what kind of death he was about to die.
So Jesus presents this idea to the disciples that he is going away for a while and they aren't going to be able to come with him right away. But there would be a future time when they would be able to join him again. So when we enter into chapter 14, Jesus’ words are now pointed toward comforting his disciples. Lets look at John 14:1-6, “Don’t let your heart be troubled.
