The Command to Come to Me (Jesus)
The Command to Come to Me (Jesus)
Come to ME.
what else to we go to? -
“In our most stressful time we will retreat to our inner most deepest instincts” … to try and find relief…
Addictions usually stem from a coping mechanism for some area of hurt in our lives.
Culture has “turned doubt into a virtue.” - deconstruction of faith… like doubt was ever a good thing… its not!
2. ALL who are weary/Labour
this is the physical work - striving to acheieve happiness in life.
striving to achieve religious selfmade - righteousness.
Striving to make ends meet.
Men, with our work, part of this came with the fall…
Work was always there… but because of sin there are thorns, and problems, toiling the ground for results.
Story: I think of just our recent garden…My mom came over in May-July last year… we put a garden in…Then nut grass….We only just now dug it out and then put mulch down… why… weeds and toil… I felt weary over our gardens… just not enough time and then the weather just made it nearly impossible to manage…
3. All who are heavy laden/carry heavy burdens.
this is talking the emotional, mental, and spiritual burdens…
We have to acknowledge our state of total depravity without Christ.
John MacArthur says; “Those that will respond to the invitation are those who are burdened by their own spiritual bankruptcy and the weight of trying to save themselves by keeping the law.”
4. I WILL GIVE you rest
Story: so much talk around sabbath, rest, days off, Gen z is trying to create a 4 day work week...Holidays and travel, - all good things… BUT they will NOT give your soul rest.
JESUS is the only way to REST.
We cannot get it through any other source!
REST.
