Intro:
Are you ready to face judgment?
the end of all things is fast approaching…we only have “now” to make preparations for the end.
Jesus gives us 4 words of warning...
Be Ready Because He Comes Unexpectedly (vs. 35-40)
Be Ready Because He Comes Unexpectedly (vs. 35-40)
There will be no time to dress or light a lamp…in other words all preparation needs to be made now (v. 35).
Be like slaves waiting for their master’s return (vs. 36-38).
He comes like a thief who comes unexpectedly (vs. 39-40).
Be Faithful Because He Brings Judgment (vs. 41-48)
Be Faithful Because He Brings Judgment (vs. 41-48)
We are “stewards” who are accountable (v. 42).
The master’s return will bring either reward or judgment depending on how we have conducted our stewardship of the master’s will (vs. 43-48).
Be Decisive Because He Brings Division (vs. 49-53)
Be Decisive Because He Brings Division (vs. 49-53)
Jesus ministry brings a purging fire to earth…consuming those who do not believe in Him (v. 49).
His “baptism” is the cross and all that it means, which will bring division between those who accept what it offers and those who do not (vs. 50-53).
the division is between believes and unbelievers.
this is the fire that purges…be decisive for Jesus.
Be Alert Because Time Runs Out (vs. 54-59)
Be Alert Because Time Runs Out (vs. 54-59)
Proper analysis of the time makes us alert...
people generally read the weather signs and are alert to what is coming and prepare themselves (as putting on a coat, etc.) (vs. 54-55).
it is important to analyze what’s really happening in the world with the arrival of God’s Son and knowing the right thing to do in view of what is happening (vs. 56-57).
We must have things in order before time runs out...
If you were being dragged to court that would alert you to settle things before it was too late (v. 58).
Once you are at the judgment seat, you will be sent to prison…a figure of eternal punishment(v. 59).
Being alert to the time could have changed your eternal circumstance.
