Good evening! My name is Luke Detweiler and I have the privilege of being able to teach tonight. I am going to be speaking about an event that happened in Exodus and is still celebrated today. And when I say today I literally mean this evening, as the sun goes down on April first a new day begins on the Jewish calendar. The new day is the 14th day of Nissan. Which God called Passover. And tonight since it is Passover we are going to be talking about Passover. When I first realized what I was going to be
teaching about I thought it would probably be about the Passover meal and all the different symbolism, maybe even preparing a seder meal. That is not what God had for me tonight and this has pretty much turned into a sermon, or at least my best interpretation of one with the limited practice that I have. Instead of that tonight we are going to learn talk about what it Passover is, what it meant to the Israelites and what it means to us today as Christians. But before we begin I would like give you a scenario to make this a little more real. ENTER SCENARIO (If you are a first born raise your hand, in need of a redeemer, will you ask for help )

Before we get into our text for this evening we need to understand where the Israelites are. And we should understand how they got there. As God promised to Abraham, Isreal would become a great nation. And that is what is happening. After Joseph fed Egypt by storing food before the famine he was granted land to bring his family into Egypt. Shortly after they arrived in Egypt they increased in number greatly. In Exodus 1:7 “7 But their descendants, the Israelites, had many children and grandchildren. In fact, they multiplied so greatly that they became extremely powerful and filled the land.” With the fear of being overtaken the new King in Egypt oppressed the Israelites and made them into a slave nation. Pharaoh who was the king of Egypt ordered all the baby boys to be killed, first he gave the command to the midwives and then later he commanded all of the Hebrew boys to be thrown into the Nile river. And if you are familiar with the story this is where the life of Moses begins. Moses was saved from this death by Pharaoh’s daughter and later became the spokesperson and leader of Israel. In
