The Place Of The Scull

Jesus has been sentenced to death. I was going to say convicted but Jesus was innocent
the people have convinced themselves and Pilot that Jesus needed to die.
V 33-38
The King is mocked and on His death cross
This place that they were was outside of the gate of Jerusalem
Jesus with the help of Simon of Cyrene carried the cross to the what is called the place of the scull
the other 2 terrorists were also on that same road about that same time
all 3 were placed on their crosses to die at the same time
I want to concentrate this morning on the others who were on the cross
V 39-41

The Wages Of Sin Is Death

Turn to Romans 6 23
We are looking at these other men
these men were criminals/ terrorists they were condemned and sentenced to death
they are to die a physical death. then they are to die a second death which is the ultimate judgement
All that people concentrate on is physical death
some believe that after your soul will enter another being born
some believe that they will become a god themselves
some that call themselves christian and atheists also believe in anniahlism that is to cease to exist
but God’s word tells us that there is a second death after the first death - physical
Revelation 20:14 LSB
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
this is what we are talking about in Romans 6 23
the wages of sin is death the second death
Hebrews 9:27 LSB
And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,
there is no reincarnation to have a second chance / it’s appointed for men to die Once
the punishment for sin is the second death. in the lake of fire
our death, our punishment has to happen
we can say that Jesus died in our place
that He took our sin upon Himself and His righteousness was given to us
and you would be correct in saying that but today we are looking at those who died on the cross with Jesus
so, why am I talking about this second death?
Three men on crosses the one in the middle was there to die for the sins of His people
one man was a criminal who hated Jesus/ God that did nothing but mock Jesus
this man died because he was a criminal and died a second time in his sin
the wages of sin is death
the other man on the cross that day
Luke 23:39–43 LSB
And one of the criminals hanging there was blaspheming Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!” But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? “And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”
this other man was born again on that cross and put his faith in Jesus
Matthew 27:44 LSB
And the robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.
Mark 15:32 LSB
“Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.
both of these men were insulting Jesus in the beginning but something happened to on of them
The Holy Spirit regenerated this man from hating God to Loving Him
changed from hating the light to embracing and loving the light that is Jesus
these two men are not who I want to talk about this morning
there were others with Jesus on the cross that day

The Others

Romans 6 3
this baptism is a joining with Jesus on His cross
we, our old self died with Jesus on that day. we were joined with Him
our old self died, the old man, the man who had the headship of Adam
we used to have the death of Adam imbedded into our dna
the second death was hanging over us like a dense fog that we could not get out of
we were born with this second death as a wage for who we were under the headship of Adam
but this second death we died to on the cross of Jesus
our second death was applied to us but
Galatians 2:20 LSB
“I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
this death means that sin that used to have master over us is also dead
look at the change of the second man on the cross that day
Luke 23:40–41 LSB
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? “And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.”
he changed from being a blasphemer and insulter of Jesus to lover and protector of Him in a very short time
V 4-14
sin is now not our master we died to it.
so don’t allow sin to again take control of you
we are not slaves to sin anymore we have died with Christ and have been raised to a new life
V 17-18
we were slaves to sin and death but are now slave of righteousness
those 2 men died with Jesus on that day but we also died with christ on that day
our penalty for sin was executed with Jesus
our slavery to sin was executed with Jesus
and we have been raised / resurrected to newness of life
with the second death - the really bad death died that day
