Intro

We’re in the hall of faith - taking note of people from across the Bible who show us what it looks like to live by faith.
Today we’re looking at the life of Moses - plus a little extra. Moses life gets a lot of airtime, because he led the peopl of Israel through one of their most important national moments.
But it wasn’t just Moses, it started with his parents.

Parents who lived by Faith

Parent’s faith can make a huge difference
Moses parents an example of those who live by faith (like the Hebrew midwives)
The people of God were a threat to egypt, and so they killed their babies, But moses parents defied the order:
Hebrews 11:23 ESV
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
Every parent loves thier newborn Child, it is a built-in feature. Having seen their child, they could not kill him, so they hid him.
As parents they would do the right thing and keep the baby alive, even though it was in direct defiance of the king.
While we are to obey our leaders, when they tell us to sin against God we defy them in faith.
Let the Faith of Moses parents be an inspiration to you!
God made sex and pregnancy, and he wants us to have kids.
The world tells you to avaid having children, put it off, they’re a burden, you need “financila security” then when you do have them, only have one or two, if any.
By faith - bring your children into the world! It is good.
Sin and the coruption of creation may get in the way, i’m not lambasting you who are not able. But if you who are in the season where you can have children, or may one day get married: Have lots of little disciples! Build a tribe to pass your faith on to.
Have children in faith! You will never be finacnially secure, it will never be the perfect time, your body will never be in “perfect” condition health wise. Instead we in faith make people, and we disciple them to Glorify Jesus.
And we don’t kill our babies
The Bible has always viewed unborn babies as alive and valuable.
Modern sicence has shown us that at the moment of conception a genetically distict new being is created.
While sickness or other factors may lead to the loss of that baby, we must never take it upon ourselves to intentionally end those lives. That is in GOd’s hanbds not ours. Someotimes in dire circumstances we need ta act to save the mother’s life that leads to the loss of the baby’s, but we don’t intentionally take unborn lives.
We don’t sacrifice babies to Molech, we don’t kill babies before birth, we don’t kill babies before a distinct heartbeat, we don’t kill babies with abortifacent “contraceptions” - that’s not contraception.
By Faith, defy the tyrant that commands you to disobey God!

Sticking With God’s People By Faith

Moses put in the ark in the water - saved by the Egyptian princess.
Adopted into Pharaohs family, however, Moses would return to his people:
Hebrews 11:24–26 ESV
By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
Moses was effectively a prince of Egypt, and he could have had a life of luxury and ease. But he didn’t, he gave it up.
Exodus 2:11 ESV
One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.
Moses saw the plight of his people and the writer to the Hebrews identifies that Moses rejection of his princely office to defend his people was an act of faith.
He identified himself with them and went to defend them.
Now he did kill a fellow - mixed options on whether or not this was murder or justified, but the author here sees the faith behind the actions, even if they were misguided.
Moses went into Exile, but God called him back to rescue the people.
Moses was looking for a reward from God, and swapped the glroies of Egypt for the reproach of Christ
How can this be? Looking across OT - it’s all about Jesus.

Fearless by Faith

When God called Moses back to Egypt, Moses is intitially trepedatous, but he in faith obeys the call of God and leads the people up out of Egypt:
Hebrews 11:27 ESV
By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.
WHe faced the Pharaoh and his armies,
Don’t be afraid of anything!

Trusting God in Faith

Hebrews 11:28 ESV
By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.
Take also of faith to kill a lamb and wipe blood, seems strange
Also strange that blood be the only thing standing between you and death
But it was done in faith, and the Angel of Death passed over.
It seems strange that faith in Christ would be all that separate us from death, but Christ is our passover lamb.

Walk through the Waters in Faith

Hebrews 11:29 ESV
By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.
The walls of water were terifying
They entered in Christ, trusting God, and it was their salvation.
The Egyptian entered against God, and it was their condemntation.
Waters of judgment, like baptism.
Be baptised! Come into the waters by faith!

Taking Ground by Faith

Come into the promised land - conquer the land.
Instructions to walk - teaching them to trust God in the battle.
Hebrews 11:30 ESV
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days.
We too are to conquer, spiritually speaking, with the Sword of the Spirit
Too many of us are too resigned to failure that we do not have an attitude that says “God will tear down these walls”
When I talk optimistically about what God could do in this country, how things could be better if our leaders and laws could be Christian. People respond as if it’s an impossibility.
Christ will cast down the walls! Go up and take the city by Faith!
The fields are ripe for harvest! God an bring in the lost and abused!
God and take the Gospel of the Kingdom out, bring in the wedding Guests!
By faith god forth!
