10 days before Passover.
32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.
Giants in the Land.
Difficult News.
As a result, how do they react?
2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.”
Amnesia
Amnesia
Who is saying this.
The same people who are were crying out for God to deliver us from harsh Slavery.
The same ones who had ALL their baby boys tossed into the river.
The same people who saw Moses’ powers, staff to snakes, 10 Plagues,
The same people who didn’t leave Eqypt as just free, but rich.
The same people who saw the Red Sea open and close and Saw God defeat an army for them.
People are quick to forget.
Now -
When they get to the red Sea, thhey wanna go back.
When they hear of Giants, they get want to get a new leader and go back to Egypt.
35 Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. 36 And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.
Along the way, God gives them Bread and Meat from Heaven. Yet, whenever they hit tough times, they want to return.
Living the LIE you’re used to
Living the LIE you’re used to
It often feels better to be sure, and enslaved. Than to be Free but uncertain. To lie to yourself that being a slave was better than being free because you at least were alive, or had food, or were not killed that much whn you were a slave.
We see this every day
Employees.
Apartheid.
slavery
It is hard to put New Wine into old Wineskins. It needs a new generation to cast off the old ways. Even when we know it is no longer.
The Jews heard Jesus and he made sense, but they were used to their Rabbinic Laws and power. So they got rid of him.
When you live according to the Commandments of Man and SIN, instead of the Commandments of God. It is comfortable to stay. BUT THEN YOU ARE A SLAVE LIKE THE ISRAELITES.
33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
Sin is slavery. that bad thing you do, which you know you should not do, But it keeps you doing it? It is your Master and you are its slave.
You work for it, for no Salary or Reward. You’re a slave.
What will set you free from Slavery? In the verse just before.
ODIN READ
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
“The Pope shall make you free”
“The Chief Apostle shall make you free”
“The Head Pastor shall make you free”
To be FREE, We must KNOW, the TRUTH.
What will set you free? The KNOWING THE Truth shall set you free.
What is the Truth, Apostle John keeps providing today.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
“The what?x3”
What is the Truth? Jesus is the Truth.
Who is Jesus according to St John? The Word with God, and the Word is God. Jesus and the father are one.
It says that KNOWING the truth shall set you free. We know that Jesus is the Truth. How do we know him?
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
How do we know him? By keeping his commandments.
Now let’s Complete the Circle,
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
And you shall keep the commandments, and Jesus shall set you free.
John says it so much better in the Revalation of Jesus Christ:
12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.
Jesus is calling the believers.
Keep the Commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. Keep the Faith and add the works and you shall be free from sin. This Faith, without works is dead.
Exodus from Slavery
Exodus from Slavery
Even though Jesus offers us Freedom, it requires us to Keep the Commandments and remain faithful to him. But that is a Giant. That is a Red Sea, that is too much work. So I’ll stay a slave where I am.
You’re in a church that is making it as comfortable as possible for you. They only teach some of the Commandments to kids. As soon as they become teens, they stop, coz the teens and adults might find it too difficult and leave. They will look for a new Leader when they face that giant.
So, following God requires you to keep that woman but the world says Divorce and remarry 3 times, put that woman away. Does your church follow the Lord, or does it return to Egypt because it doesnot want you to choose a new leader?
When following God says the bible no gay acts and no female pastors. Does your church follow the Lord, or does it return to Egypt because it does not want you to choose a new leader?
When the Lord requires courage and perseverance in the Way, and the world says just Do You Boo, Do whatever makes you happy. Does your church follow the Lord, or does it return to Egypt because it doesnot want you to choose a new leader?
Maybe your church is more interested in your offerings Today than your salvation tomorrow, so they pick and choose the easy commendments while ignoring the buld of the Commandments of God. One path leads to Freedom, the other leads to Slavery.
God said dont work on the Sabbath, But the world says work on Saturday.
God said observe Passover as a statute forever, but you ignore it.
God said follow him, but you follow your Church Leaders and the world.
When Following God is Difficult, what do you do? Do you stay true, or choose a new leader to follow back to Egypt?
Be the Exception. Stay true.
After Moses Died, Joshua led the Israelites and they rebelled again. Josh 24:15
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
amen
