Final Words

Good morning. It is good to see you all this morning. As always it is just such a blessing to get up and share the things God has put on my heart for you all here and watching online. As always we ask you to share, like, comment on today’s message.
We are on our final 2 Sundays before we enter Easter Week. We have invote cards for you as you leave today. From a family fun day and egg hunt next Saturday to Good Friday and Easter service, there is plenty to invite friends and family too.
Since I know you have your Bibles, please turn, swipe, or ask Alexa to turn to John 17.
If I had to guess, everyone here would agree that being safe and secure are very important.
There are more than 112,000 security based businesses in the US. It is a over $47 billion business.
It is my other job.
If you did not know it, we are in the midst of Spring Break.
More and more families and college students will be heading to Orlando in the coming weeks.
I can tell you for a fact that safety and security will never mean more to you than when you climb on a roller coaster.
This past week was my wife’s spring break. So, I thought lets get couple of days at a Resort at Universal and have some fun.
We had a blast. We had an easy day of wondering around Universal Studios one day. Then we went to Epic and road everything. One of the rides spins you around as you are going through it. We were backwards the whole time nearly. I had no idea where I was.
We rode a ride where you literally became weightless. The only time I though I was going to die.
The best part, every photo looked like this

Safe and Secure

Believe me I checked every lap bar. We love the thrills, but when it comes to the important things we want to be sure.
There are so many uncertainties in this world, especially these days, but when it comes to our eternity we can know for certain.
No matter what happens, I can be safe and secure in the truth of what Jesus has done for me.
That’s what I want to dive into a little today.
So if you would please stand with me as we read and hear the only words that can make a difference today.
John 17:6–7 ESV
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you.
John 17:8 ESV
8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
John 17:9–10 ESV
9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.
John 17:11 ESV
11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
John 17:12 ESV
12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
John 17:13–14 ESV
13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
John 17:15–17 ESV
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
John 17:18–19 ESV
18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.
Let’s pray

Safe and Secure

Jesus has moved His prayer from himself to His followers.
They still have no idea what is going on and what is coming.
They are still hoping for freedom from Rome, but Jesus knows unless sin and death are dealt with there will be no freedom. Outside Christ there is no freedom.
Not only was Jesu about to give His life, but in these next passages He shows us how much more He has given.
Jesus revealed the relational Father.
John 17:6–7 ESV
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you.
Jesus revealed the relational Father.
Before Jesus, the Father was distant and could only be approached through sacrifice and a priest. He was Jehovah, the Great I AM.
Jesus took that sacred name I AM and gave it new meaning.
I AM the Bread of Life, Light of the world, door of the sheep, Good Shepherd, Resurrection and life, Way Truth Life, True Vine.
Showing us the Father has everything we need.
Just using that word Father changes how we see God and apporach Him
I know there have been and are fathers that have failed and skewed our picutre of what a father is. But when my father passed, the heavenly Father became that for me and He has never let me down.
In biblical times the name revealed the character and nature.
Jesus’ followers were the Fathers and he gave them to Christ.
Christ gave His followers everything from the Father
John 17:8 ESV
8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
Jesus revealed the relational Father.
Their belief showed the belong to the Father and we are secure.
Jesus revealed the rescuing Father.
John 17:9–10 ESV
9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.
Jesus revealed the rescuing Father.
Our faith and belief bring glory to Christ.
Or faith and belief come form the fact that we are His.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 ESV
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Jesus revealed the rescuing Father.
That’s not all
John 17:11–12 ESV
11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
Jesus revealed the rescuing Father.
We have been rescued, never to return.
We have the Father keeping us, Jesus praying for us, and the fellowship of believers to encourage us.
No such thing as isolated believers in the NT. We need each other.
But, Judas - the son of destruction.
Do not think for a moment that Judas lost his faith and salvation.
Judas was not a believer he is an example of an unbeliever pretending to have salvation.
You cannot fake until you make it.
Jesus revealed the revelatory Father
John 17:13–14 ESV
13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
Jesus revealed the revelatory Father.
Everything we need to know about the Father, Jesus, and how safe and secure we are in trusting Him is in His words.
It is where we find the source of Joy, peace, strength.
It transforms and lasts forever.
Matthew 24:35 ESV
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Jesus revealed the revelatory Father.
His word does not just contain truth, it is truth.
The Father wants us to know Him and know His promises.
His word also sets us apart.
John 17:15–17 ESV
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
Jesus revealed the revelatory Father.
Living your life asccording to this book will make you stand out.
But, I can take every promise, every command, every truth and the world can do nothing to me.
Romans 8:35–39 ESV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Safe and Secure

Knowing I am safe and secure in the Father, I have been rescued, and I have His word how can I not go full throttle over every drop, twist and turn.
John 17:18–19 ESV
18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

Safe and Secure

"Salvation does not ultimately depend on your weak hold on Christ, but on His strong and certain grip on you." RC Sproul

Safe and Secure

This is a faith that lasts and changes the world.
This is a faith worth everything because it cost everything.
