What is the ultimate goal of life?
What is the ultimate goal of life?
Notice I did not say the ultimate goal of the Christian life, that is very much different. Why do we exist? This is important to consider.
Jewish belief: God is ONE, unique, and there is no other.
Jewish belief: God is ONE, unique, and there is no other.
This is a good belief, a correct belief. We rest on this promise even today when we talk about not having multiple gods we worship. God the Father. God the Son. God the Holy Spirit.
The SHEMA of Deuteronomy 6.4
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Jesus was not equal, as a rival, of God the Father.
Jesus was not equal, as a rival, of God the Father.
This to some extent was the mistake the Jewish leaders were making. Jesus was not saying I am an independent equal deity. If we are not careful we will try to do this ourselves. This is the oldest sin in the book and teh greatest temptation of all mankind—to be equal and independent of God.
Jesus was saying, the Father and I are unified and the same. I am God.
Jesus was saying, the Father and I are unified and the same. I am God.
This is different. They are unified in purpose, in power because they are the same. If Jesus has done it is because God the Father has done it. God the father as power over life and judment—so does Jesus. They are the same!

Jesus does not do anything on His own. He is always doing what will give God the greatest glory.
Moses declares who Jesus is.
Moses declares who Jesus is.
The prophet par excellence for the Jews and the Pharisees was Moses himself.
We exist for God’s purposes and His glory.
We exist for God’s purposes and His glory.
It is not about me! I do not exist for my rights, my thoughts, or my dreams. I do not exist to create a platform but for the God’s platform. The reformation brought back into the forefront the idea of this: “For God’s glory alone!” We need this reminder again today.
