Christ frees us from Death
Remember Genesis 3:15 , it’s a promise from God to Eve that a future human offspring will be born to strike the head of the Nachash
Christ lived His human life as we were meant to, remains totally obedient to God the Father and passing every test of faith. Contrary to Abraham, Moses, David, and others in the OT who could only partially fulfilled the law and prophets. Christ fulfills Genesis 3:15
20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since through a man came death, also through a man came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
The problem of death is solved by resurrection. There cannot be a resurrection with death.
The sin of the Watchers reversed
33 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.
The writer of Hebrews (credited to Paul) references this verse in Hebrews 8:10
By His sacrifice on the cross, Christ’s blood cleanses us from all sin 1 John 1:7
This is not a new idea, it comes from Leviticus 16:18 where God instructs Moses on how Aaron should spatter blood from the bull & goat offerings to consecrate the altar from the Israelites impurities
Being consecrated by the blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit can indwell in us 1 Corinthians 3:16 and reverse our depravity (sin nature)
Gentile nations are brought back into relationship with God and the Principalities and Powers are stripped of authority
1 And after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy-two others and sent them out two by two before him into every town and place where he was about to go. 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest that he send out workers into his harvest.
In this passage, Christ is signaling His intention to reclaim all nations and peoples, not only the Jews.
This full reclaiming begins at Pentecost, Acts 2 1-4
14 having destroyed the certificate of indebtedness in ordinances against us, which was hostile to us, and removed it out of the way by nailing it to the cross. 15 When he had disarmed the rulers and the authorities, he made a display of them in public, triumphing over them by it.
“the rulers and the authorities” are spiritual/supernatural powers. Christ, by his death & resurrection, has stripped their authority and claim to our lives.
Although their authority is gone, they still hold power and influence over the nations.
11 “I continued watching then because of the noise of the boastful words of the horn who was speaking; I continued watching until the beast was slain and its body was destroyed, and it was given over to burning with fire. 12 And as for the remainder of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but a prolongation of their life was given to them for a season and a time. 13 “I continued watching in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and kingship that all the peoples, the nations, and languages would serve him; his dominion is a dominion without end that will not cease, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.
“Son of Man” just means Human. In the case of the vision Daniel was given, this Human is clearly identified as God(YHWH)
“with the clouds of heaven” is using Ugaritic myths about Baal being the “Rider on the clouds” which is divine imagery
Jesus quotes this to Caiaphas, the high priest, during his trial Matthew 26:64. This is what ultimately gets Him condemned to death for blasphemy
