Prayer: Lord God, bless Your Word wherever it is proclaimed.
Make it a Word of power and peace to convert those not yet Your own and to confirm those who have come to saving faith.
May Your Word pass from the ear to the heart, from the heart to the lip, and from the lip to the life that, as You have promised, Your Word may achieve the purpose for which You send it, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
On July 1st, 1555, John Bradford was burned to death.
He was chaplain to King Edward Sixth of England, and was one of the most popular preachers of his day.
But he was a martyr to his faith.
As he was being driven out to Newgate to be burned, permission was given him to speak, and from the wagon in which he rode to his death the entire way out from West London to Newgate he shouted: “Christ, Christ, none but Christ!”
They Wanted to See Jesus
They Wanted to See Jesus
John 12:20-22
Could you introduce someone to Jesus?
Why did the Greeks approach Philip?
What’s in a name?
Are you known as approachable for Christ?
Tell Jesus about it.
Word of God, Speak
John 12:23-26
Don’t Get Sidetracked - they must see Jesus
Even when they come with side issues, bring them to the main issue.
Don’t sugarcoat the Law, and don’t dilute the Gospel.
Allow the Word to do the work.
Watching Over His Word to Perform It
John 12:27-33
The Signs are for us - not for God
God doesn’t need us to “give Him glory” - He already has it.
Jesus asks what He knows the Father wills to do - make His light to shine upon us.
Jesus asks for our sakes, not for His own benefit.
Who gets the most benefit from your prayers?
Don’t Let Unbelief Steal Your Blessing
John 12:34-3
Don’t misuse the Word just to win an argument
That happens when you have learned how to wield “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”
2 Tim
God’s Word is pure, and powerful, so don’t dilute it with doctrines of men, speak it so that they can believe it.
Let’s look back at again, and now bring in the next verse:
Rom 10:1
What we declare of God out of faith, will impact our hearers for faith.
Do not make this about you, however, for in the end, that is not your issue.
That lies between them and God.
John 12:39-43
As we serve our Lord Jesus Christ in Witness, Mercy, and Life Together, remember that this is the Mission of God, not of yourself, or St. John’s, or even of the LCMS.
>>Say it with me: “It’s not about us, but it’s about Jesus.”<<
Let the false apostles toot their own horn, and the false witnesses misdirect others to hell; for those who know the Lord,
>>say it again: “It’s not about us, but it’s about Jesus.”<<
Let others boast in their numbers, or their political influence, or their wealth; none of those things saves anybody from the power of sin and death.
The one who serves Jesus understands why we focus in Him rather than ourselves: the grace of God, that has, through Christ’s death for us, brought to us forgiveness, reconciliation, and adoption, teaches us.
Titus 2:11-14
>>Say it because you mean it: “It’s not about us, but it’s about Jesus.”<<
>>Say it because you mean it: “It’s not about us, but it’s about Jesus.”<<
And let the peace of God, that passes understanding guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, Amen.
