Why Greeters Are Important in Getting Guest to Return
The Parking Lot Greeter
Does make an impact on people
For waving (Young people)
For Direction
The Door Greeter
Fewer instead of more
Too many door greeters will stand and talk to one another.
Door Greeter is watching to make sure they say hi to those coming in and to see if they need direction.

Train Your Greeters
Know eye contact
Know when to be at your station
Things to say:
“Welcome to Church on the Rock”
“Let know if you need help”
“How long have you been attending”
If they say it’s there first time - “I’m so glad you joined us today.”
Know where to point people.
Know how to handle a handicap situation.
Training should be twice a year (Fall & Spring)
Keep the Ministry Fresh
Rotation with greeters
Connect Team should meet quarterly (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer)
Possible Community Group for Connect Team
I recommend greeters attend a different church about once a quarter. They should write down their experiences, good and bad, to share with others in the greeters’ ministry. Make visits to other churches a regular part of the greeters’ training.
Stay Late
Greeters should NOT leave as soon as service starts.
Some people do come in late.

6 Reasons Why Most Church Greeter Ministries Struggle
6 Reasons Why Most Church Greeter Ministries Struggle
The church fails to understand its importance.
The ministry does not have a clear champion.
The champion (leader) must be:
Friendly
Organizational skill
The church does not provide ongoing training for greeters.
Twice a year
Quarterly
The pastor does not articulate its importance.
There is no system of ongoing recruiting.
We need to approach people.
Call from the stage rarely works.
Makes them feel more valued when you approach individuals
They have never used the secret guest ministry.
Sending someone to another church to observe and take notes.
Greeter Responsibility:
• Opening doors for our guests and members, greeting them with a smile and handshake.
• Greeters at the Sanctuary doors may sometimes pass out items such as fliers, candles,
etc. for special services.
• Escorting Guests: Our goal is to assist those who need directions or help by personally
escorting them to the location instead of pointing to it. This shows that you value them
and allows a few moments for conversation. If only one greeter is assigned to a station,
please escort the guest to a host.
Greeter Expectation:
Attend at least one service each Sunday. When you serve be sure you attend the
service either before or afterwards. First and foremost, we want you to make sure you
are being poured into so you can receive all that God has for you!
• Be on time. We ask that every Connect Team volunteer be here 30-35 minutes prior to
the beginning of the service in which they are serving. We will meet in the Volunteer
Hospitality room for announcements, prayer, name tag pickup and assignments.
• Please dress modestly and neatly. Make sure you dress appropriate, as leaders we
never want to wear anything that would be a hindrance in ministering to others. No low-
cut tops, spaghetti straps or short skirts/shorts. Keep in mind too that you may need to
stand outside or in a doorway for part of your service time and many Sunday mornings
are quite windy in West Texas!
• Wear your name tag. Upon arrival, grab your name tag and wear it as you serve. It is
important for everyone to walk through the doors or foyer and see your name tag to be
able to identify you as a volunteer if they need to ask for help. Please return your
name tag to the Volunteer Hospitality room when you are finished serving for the
morning.
• Communicate. We all know that there will be times when things come up that keep
you from serving on your chosen week. We ask that you please communicate any
changes as soon as possible so we can find a replacement.
