DAY 4
DAY 4
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,
15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.
16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth,
18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
Before a single human ever opened a calendar… before a clock ever ticked… before the first sunrise ever painted the sky with color… God stepped into the empty canvas of creation and said, “Let there be lights.”
Not because He needed them.
Not because He was trying to decorate the heavens.
But because He was establishing order, rhythm, and purpose for the world He was forming.
Genesis 1:14–19 isn’t just about stars and moons and suns.
It’s about a God who refuses to let His creation drift in chaos.
A God who sets boundaries for the night and assignments for the day.
A God who appoints seasons, marks sacred times, and gives structure to the lives of His people.
And here’s the part that grips me:
The same God who hung galaxies in place is still ordering the days of your life.
He is not random.
He is not distant.
He is not improvising your story.
When God placed lights in the heavens, He was declaring to every generation:
“I am the God who brings clarity where there is confusion, rhythm where there is restlessness, and purpose where there is wandering.”
So if you’ve ever felt like your life is out of sync…
If you’ve ever walked through a season that felt endless…
If you’ve ever wondered whether God still sees you in the dark…
Genesis 1:14–19 stands as a cosmic reminder:
Your times are in His hands.
Your seasons are not wasted.
Your nights are not unnoticed.
Your days are not unassigned.
Today, we step into a passage that shows us a God who not only creates light—
He creates meaning.
And He still does.
Day four confuses many: here God created the lights in the expanse of the sky the sun and moon and stars—but just a few verses earlier, on day one, God had created light and darkness. So what was producing light for the first three days? God himself was. In
5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
On day four, God handed over that responsibility to a group of celestial representatives, so that they would provide light on the earth and serve as signs for seasons and for days and years . We see another systematic way or system of God. This has been a pattern in the first chapter of the Bible. We are getting a huge glimpse into the way God operates in anything He’s part of.
1️⃣ God Creates Light Before He Creates Life
Point: God establishes order before He establishes purpose.
• Days 1–3: God forms.
• Days 4–6: God fills.
• Light comes before life because God prepares the environment before He places the assignment.
Application: If God is bringing order to someone’s life right now, it’s not punishment — it’s preparation.
The Lights Were Not for Decoration but for Direction
Point: The sun, moon, and stars were created to govern, separate, and mark seasons.
• They tell time.
• They set boundaries.
• They establish rhythm.
Application: God still gives His people spiritual “lights” — His Word, His Spirit, His people — to keep us from drifting into chaos. Astrology is a satanic corruption of God’s original message in the stars, a message outlining His plan of redemption. Because astrology is a corruption, it is to be avoided always by man. With all the other stars in our universe, we often wonder if there is life on other planets.
When considering all that is necessary for the sustenance of life, as we know it, there are few planets able to support life. Considering factors such as our galaxy type, star location, star age, star mass, star color, distance from stars, axis tilt, rotation period, surface gravity, tidal force, magnetic field, oxygen quantity in atmosphere, atmospheric pressure, and 20 other important factors, the probability of all 33 occurrences happening on any one planet is one in 10 to the 42nd power. The total number of possible planets in the universe is ten to the 22nd power.
3️⃣ God Is the Lord of Seasons
Point: “Let them be for signs and for seasons…”
• Seasons are not random.
• Seasons are not permanent.
• Seasons are not wasted.
Application: Whatever season someone is in — waiting, grieving, rebuilding, growing — God appointed it, and He will use it.
God Places Lights in the Sky — and He Places Believers in the World
The same language used for the sun and moon is later used for God’s people:
• “A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”
• “You are the light of the world.”
Point: Creation is a mirror of our mission.
Application: God positions His people intentionally — in families, workplaces, communities — to shine in dark places.
⃣ The Greater Light and the Lesser Light Point to Christ
The early church saw Day 4 as a prophetic picture:
• The greater light (sun) rules the day → Christ, the Light of the World.
• The lesser light (moon) reflects the sun → the Church, reflecting Christ’s glory.
Application: We don’t generate light — we reflect it. Revival is not about our brilliance but our alignment.
Once again God Called It “Good” — Even Before Humanity Saw It
Point: God’s work is good even when it’s unseen.
Application: God is working in the dark, behind the scenes, in ways we don’t recognize yet. Trust the unseen hand of God.
Creation Obeys Instantly — So Should We
When God said, “Let there be lights,” the heavens didn’t negotiate.
Point: Creation responds to God’s voice with immediate obedience.
Application: Revival begins when God’s people obey with the same urgency.
As we stand before this text, we’re reminded that the same God who spoke light into the heavens is still speaking into the lives of His people. The God who set the sun to rule the day and the moon to rule the night has never once surrendered His authority over the seasons of your life.
You may be walking through a night season — but there is a Light that rules the night.
You may feel like your days have lost rhythm — but there is a God who still appoints days and years.
You may feel like your story is drifting — but the One who hung the stars has never lost control of your timeline.
Genesis 1:14–19 tells us something powerful:
Your life is not random. Your season is not wasted. Your darkness is not final.
If God can bring order to a world that was formless and void, He can bring order to a heart that feels scattered.
If God can speak light into the sky, He can speak clarity into your confusion.
If God can assign purpose to the sun and moon, He can assign purpose to your pain.
And here’s the hope we cling to today:
The same God who created the lights is the same God who steps into our darkness.
He doesn’t just give light — He is Light.
He doesn’t just mark seasons — He redeems them.
He doesn’t just order creation — He orders your steps.
So today, if you’re in a season you don’t understand…
If you’re in a night that feels too long…
If you’re in a moment where you need God to bring clarity, direction, or renewal…
The God of Genesis 1 is still speaking.
Still creating.
Still ordering.
Still calling things “good” even before you can see it.
Come to the God who sets the lights in the heavens — and let Him set the light in your heart.
Come to the God who governs the day and the night — and let Him govern your season.
Come to the God who brings order out of chaos — and let Him bring order to your soul.
The altar is open.
The Light is shining.
And the God who marks the days is ready to mark this one as the day everything changes.
