Acts 9:32–35 ESV
32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
We continue to “Discover the Church” through the Book of Acts. Remembering it’s purpose can be found in Luke.
Luke 1:4 ESV
4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
The Book of Acts has several themes...
The Themes of Acts
World Mission; Providence of God; Power of the Spirit; Restored Isreal; Inclusive Gospel; Faithful Witness; Relationship to the World; Triumph of the Gospel
Acts 9:32 ESV
32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.
So Peter is going around preaching.
Notice
Who did Peter also come down to? The Saints
He stopped in Lydda to visit the “saints” there. Just how the Christian community began there we are not told. Perhaps it was the product of Philip’s ministry, since he would have passed through Lydda on his journey northward from Azotus to Caesarea (8:40)

Lydda today is a town called Lod. S we discover the Gospel has spread southwest.
Polhill, J. B. (1992). Acts (Vol. 26, p. 245). Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers.Lydda today is a town called Lod. S we discover the Gospel has spread southwest.
Acts 8:40 ESV
40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
Acts 9:33 ESV
33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed.
Acts 9:33
Scripture does not record a request for healing. Just as jesus did...
Luke 7:13–15 ESV
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Luke 13:12 ESV
12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.”
Lk
How long had Aeneas been paralyzed? 8 years
This leaves no mistaking that the Providence and Power of God was at work here. Substantiating the fact that Peter’s Gospel is true.
Acts 9:34 ESV
34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose.
Note Peter uses the name of Jesus. Not because it is a formula but to give Him the glory.
Peter obviously remembers the Lord’s actions who did the same.
Mark 2:11 ESV
11 “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.”
Luke 5:24 ESV
24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.”
Lk
Scripture records 4 miracles of Peter’s, including this one.
Matthew 14:21 ESV
21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Matthew 14:29 ESV
29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
Acts 3:6 ESV
6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
Acts 3:6
Acts 9:40 ESV
40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.
How long did it take for the healing to work? It happened immediately
Acts 9:35 ESV
35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
The right purpose of the miracle was fulfilled, people turned to the Lord.
The miracle confirmed the word that Peter was preaching.
No mistaking the miracle since the man had been paralyzed for 8 years.
Peter’s Gospel and the miracle led to what? People turning to the Lord
