Objective:
Recently I was asked a question in regards to speaking in tongues, and what this means to the 21st century new testament church.
As simple as this question seemed to me; that is to answer it; it made me think of the countless number of people who simply does not know what the value of speaking in tongues is.
In the average church you have some that do it, and then you have others who desire to do it, but it just does not seem to happen for them.
Well, I will hold out to you that it is the plan of God for every Holy Ghost filled believer to be a person who speaks in tongues.
My assignment tonight is merely to educate.
It’s not to condemn in any fashion.
It’s truly to educate.
This is my responsibility.
Now before I proceed I want to read a passage of scripture highlighting this being my responsibility to the people of God.
Eze 3:17
You see as the watchman on the wall, I must inform, instruct, help learn, and motivate to move in the right direction.
Thats my job as a Pastor.
It’s not just about preaching and making you feel good.
You must get some meat.
In the old times my grandmother many times would tell us McDonalds is not really food to eat.
You will eat that a be hungry again right away.
What you really need is some good old greens, dressing, and hammocks and turkey.
It was her understand that that food would keep you full longer.
Well so it is with God’s word.
You need something to inspire you for growth and change.
My assignment tonight is to educate you on the controversial subject of “Speaking in Tongues”.
Introduction:
I want to open my introduction this way.
Have you ever had some information that was different from what a person had learned and you were trying to convince them that they had been mis-informed and they would not even hear you out?
For example: I grew up drinking cool aid I thought it was good for me.
Well I would see the commercial of the Hi C guy and since it taste good so I thought it was good.
Even if you tried to convince me that it was no good, I would not have even heard you.
So just hear me out.
I’m asking you tonight to just hear me out.
Foundation of the Holy Ghost
When we first here the mention of the Holy Ghost, Jesus is the one who brings him up.
John
Do we all agree that Jesus is the first to mention the Holy Ghost?
Look at what he says to his disciples.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient (beneficial) for you that I go away.
For if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
Who is the comforter?
How is he coming?
What will happen when he comes?
What evidence will I have to show he has come?
You have alot of good people that love God but they do not have the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Many of them are singing, teaching, praying, and some were even Pastoring, before the revelation of the baptism of the Holy Ghost came.
I have two notable examples of this: Dr Fredrick K C Price.
Bishop I V Hillard, both were pastoring and loving God without the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
However when your heart is right and your desire is to please God, God is obligated to raise up someone, someone where who has your answer.
I have both of their stories on audio file.
Receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost is the new birth that Jesus talked about in John.
And it is necessary for your spiritual growth and sustenance in God.
Now you have the responsibility to want to hear what the Spirit is saying unto the Church.
When the father God dealt with John on the Isle of Patmos over and over again he encouraged each church to hear what the spirit was saying to the church.

Faithfulness of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Ghost is faithful, he comes to the truly repentant soul.
When you heart is right, the Holy Spirit is coming.
He is going to do just what Jesus said he would do.
The father God is faithful to them that ask for the Holy Ghost.
Now Jesus taught the disciples that the Holy Ghost/Spirit was coming.
Again the questions still remain?
How would we know when he gets here?
What will happen when he comes?
etc..........
Now I going to take you to a passage of scripture written by Luke (a doctor)
He was not a disciple of Jesus or a preacher, he was a well schooled doctor.
In fact he is the only known Gentile author in the New Testament.
He wrote the book of Luke and the book of Acts.
The book of Acts is a letter that he wrote to Theophilus explaining to him the acts and references to the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:1
Again the question has to be raised what will happen when the comes?
How will we know he is here?
Lets look at who was in the upper room.
Acts 1:13-
The bible actually says Peter counted them and it was about 120
The Fulfillment of the Holy Ghost
Day of Pentecost is important for you to understand
PENTECOST One of three major Jewish feasts also called the Feast of Weeks.
The name “Pentecost” is derived from the Greek word meaning “fifty.”
Pentecost occurs in the month of Sivan (May/June), 50 days after Passover, and celebrates the end of the grain harvest.
The Pentecost that followed Jesus’ death and resurrection was the occasion on which the Holy Spirit was given to believers in Jerusalem.
Believers were together celebrating Pentecost when suddenly unusual sights and sounds signaled an event that would have far-reaching implications.
They heard the sound of “a violent rushing wind” ( HCSB).
They saw tongues of fire resting on believers, and each believer was able to communicate in languages they had never before spoken.
They were able to speak with Jewish pilgrims of many languages from all over the Mediterranean world.
These phenomena got the attention of the Jewish faithful gathered in Jerusalem.
Many thought the disciples were intoxicated.
But Simon Peter got up and pointed out that it was too early in the day for people to be drunk.
Peter then took this unusual opportunity to proclaim that this event was the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy that God would pour out His Spirit on all people.
Peter linked the gift of the Spirit with the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus.
Peter’s message found its way into the hearts of over 3,000 who responded by repenting and being baptized in the name of Jesus and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary.
It has been stated in many pulpits that tongues are a thing of the pass.
It has further been stated that the experience on pentecost was just for these people.
It has been stated that God allowed this for them people to speak to everyone in their language about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
However Jesus Called it the coming of the Comforter.
