Week 13 (5th Sunday) Family and Friends Day
This Week’s Theme: God is Faithful
Word for the Week is Election-God’s sovereign choice to set His love upon a people for His purposes — not based on their merit, but on His grace and will.
Memory verse: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Sermon Focus: God is faithful to His people and His promises.
Sermon Passage: Deuteronomy 7:6-16
Deuteronomy 7:6 NKJV
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.
INTRODUCTION
THERE ARE MOMENTS IN LIFE WHEN EVERYTHING COMES DOWN TO A SIMPLE RESPONSE—YES OR NO.
A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL… A JOB OFFER… A CALL TO MINISTRY…
BUT THE GREATEST QUESTION YOU WILL EVER ANSWER IS THIS: WILL YOU SAY YES TO GOD?
IN Deuteronomy 7:6–16, MOSES REMINDS ISRAEL THAT GOD HAS ALREADY SAID YES TO THEM— NOW THE QUESTION IS: WILL THEY SAY YES TO HIM?
THEY WERE CHOSEN… LOVED… SET APART… AND PROMISED BLESSING. YET ALL OF IT REQUIRED A RESPONSE OF OBEDIENCE.
THE SAME IS TRUE FOR US TODAY.

I. YOU NEED TO RECOGNIZE

BEFORE YOU CAN RESPOND RIGHT, YOU MUST RECOGNIZE GOD RIGHTLY.
“THEREFORE KNOW THAT THE LORD YOUR GOD, HE IS GOD, THE FAITHFUL GOD…” (V. 9)
Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

A. HIS PATTERN

GOD HAS A CONSISTENT WAY OF DEALING WITH HIS PEOPLE.

HE CHOOSES

Deuteronomy 7:6–7 NKJV
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. 7 The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples;
GOD CHOSE ISRAEL—NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE MANY, BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE FEW.
ILLUSTRATION: IT’S LIKE A COACH PICKING A PLAYER THAT NOBODY ELSE WOULD DRAFT—NOT BECAUSE OF THEIR STATS, BUT BECAUSE HE SEES SOMETHING OTHERS DON’T.
👉 GOD DIDN’T CHOOSE YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE IMPRESSIVE— HE CHOSE YOU BECAUSE HE IS GRACIOUS.
1 Corinthians 1:27 NKJV
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
John 15:16 NKJV
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

HE CHERISHES

Deuteronomy 7:6–8 NKJV
6 “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. 7 The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
“SPECIAL TREASURE… BECAUSE THE LORD LOVES YOU…”
GOD DIDN’T JUST CHOOSE THEM—HE VALUED THEM.
ILLUSTRATION: A FAMILY HEIRLOOM MAY NOT LOOK VALUABLE TO OTHERS, BUT TO THE OWNER—IT IS PRICELESS.
YOU ARE NOT JUST SAVED—YOU ARE SIGNIFICANT TO GOD.
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

HE COMPLETES

Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
WHAT GOD STARTS, HE FINISHES.
THIS IS IMPLIED IN HIS COVENANT FAITHFULNESS—HE KEEPS HIS WORD ACROSS GENERATIONS.
ILLUSTRATION: PEOPLE START PROJECTS AND LEAVE THEM UNFINISHED—BUT GOD NEVER LEAVES A JOB UNDONE.
Philippians 1:6 NKJV
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Hebrews 10:23 NKJV
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

HE CHALLENGES

Deuteronomy 7:11 NKJV
11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.
“THEREFORE YOU SHALL KEEP THE COMMANDMENT…”
GOD’S LOVE DOES NOT REMOVE RESPONSIBILITY—IT REQUIRES RESPONSE.
ILLUSTRATION: A GOOD FATHER DOESN’T JUST PROVIDE—HE ALSO EXPECTS OBEDIENCE.
GRACE IS NOT PERMISSION TO LIVE LOOSELY—IT IS POWER TO LIVE RIGHTLY.
JOHN 14:15 – IF YOU LOVE ME, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS
Titus 2:11–12 NKJV
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

B. HE IS PREDICTABLE

Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
“…THE FAITHFUL GOD WHO KEEPS COVENANT AND MERCY…”
GOD’S FAITHFULNESS MEANS
HE WILL DO WHAT HE SAID,
BE WHO HE HAS BEEN,
KEEP WHAT HE PROMISED,
AND COMPLETE WHAT HE STARTED—
EVERY TIME, WITHOUT FAIL.
GOD IS NOT RANDOM—HE IS RELIABLE.
HE ALWAYS KEEPS HIS WORD
HE ALWAYS HONORS HIS COVENANT
HE ALWAYS RESPONDS CONSISTENTLY
ILLUSTRATION: SOME PEOPLE ARE UNPREDICTABLE—YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT VERSION OF THEM YOU’RE GOING TO GET. BUT WITH GOD—YOU ALWAYS GET FAITHFULNESS.
WHEN YOU ARE SHAKY, HE REMAINS STEADY.
2 Timothy 2:13 NKJV
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
Lamentations 3:22–23 NKJV
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Numbers 23:19 NKJV
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
CONSTANT and CONSISTENT
DEDICATED and DEVOTED
STEADFAST AND STEADY
DEPENDABLE and DUTIFUL
RELIABLE and RESPONSIBLE
TRIED-AND-TRUE
TRANSITION
NOW THAT YOU RECOGNIZE WHO GOD IS— THE QUESTION BECOMES: WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT IT?

II. YOU NEED TO RESPOND

Deuteronomy 7:11 NKJV
11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.

A. BY CHOOSING HIM

GOD CHOSE YOU—NOW YOU MUST CHOOSE HIM.
ILLUSTRATION: IT’S LIKE BEING INVITED INTO A RELATIONSHIP—YOU MUST ACCEPT IT.
👉 SALVATION IS OFFERED—BUT IT MUST BE RECEIVED.
JOSHUA 24:15 – CHOOSE FOR YOURSELVES THIS DAY
MATTHEW 6:33 – SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM
JOHN 1:12 – AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM

B. BY CHERISHING HIM

NOT JUST CHOOSING GOD—BUT VALUING HIM ABOVE EVERYTHING. WHAT YOU CHERISH, YOU PROTECT… PRIORITIZE… PURSUE.
IF GOD IS YOUR TREASURE, YOUR LIFE WILL SHOW IT.
Matthew 22:37 NKJV
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

C. BY CHANGING FOR HIM

Deuteronomy 7:11–16 NKJV
11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them. 12 “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers. 13 And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. 14 You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock. 15 And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you. 16 Also you shall destroy all the peoples whom the Lord your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
OBEDIENCE LEADS TO TRANSFORMATION AND BLESSING.
HE WILL BLESS YOUR LIFE
HE WILL REMOVE SICKNESS
HE WILL DEFEAT YOUR ENEMIES
ILLUSTRATION: WHEN YOU ALIGN WITH GOD, YOUR LIFE BEGINS TO REFLECT HIS ORDER, HIS FAVOR, AND HIS POWER.
YOU DON’T CHANGE TO EARN HIS LOVE— YOU CHANGE BECAUSE YOU HAVE HIS LOVE.
ROMANS 12:1–2 – BE TRANSFORMED
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 – NEW CREATION
JAMES 1:22 – BE DOERS OF THE WORD
GOD HAS ALREADY MADE HIS MOVE:
HE CHOSE YOU
HE LOVES YOU
HE IS FAITHFUL TO YOU
NOW THE QUESTION IS:
WILL YOU JUST SAY YES?
HE CHOSE YOU—SAY YES
HE CHERISHES YOU—SAY YES
HE CALLS YOU—SAY YESHE COMMANDS YOU—SAY YES
STOP DELAYING
STOP DEBATING
STOP DRIFTING
AND JUST SAY YES TO GOD.
