Introduction: On Creation and the Resurrection

Easter Sunday. No resurrection text. Genesis 1 pa rin, part ng series. Ano naman ang kinalaman ng creation account, especially ang pagkakalikha sa tao sa muling pagkabuhay ni Jesus? Isa sa mga challenges ng pagpi-preach sa Genesis 1 ay kung paano i-preach si Cristo sa tekstong ito. Merong mandate ang mga preachers na hindi sarili at hindi kung sino man ang ibibida sa preaching kundi si Cristo. “For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord” (2 Cor. 4:5); “Him we proclaim” (Col. 1:28). Paano natin ‘yan gagawin sa Genesis 1? Perfectly good ang pagkakalikha ng Diyos dito ay hindi kailangan ng isang Savior. Walang pangako tungkol sa darating na Cristo (Greidanus, Preaching Christ from Genesis, 43). Paano ‘yan?

Isa sa pangunahing layunin ko bilang preacher ay hindi lang ang ipangaral nang tapat ang Salita ng Diyos sa paraang nakasentro kay Cristo, kundi pati na rin turuan kayo kung paano basahin at pag-aralan ang Salita ng Diyos na nakasentro kay Cristo by showing you kung paano gagawin ‘yan.

Ang pagdurusa at kamatayan ni Cristo para sa ating mga kasalanan, at ang kanyang muling pagkabuhay mula sa mga patay, ang nagpasimula ng pagsilang ng bagong paglikha kung saan ang tao ay ibinabalik sa kanyang orihinal na kaluwalhatian (original glory). Ang kanyang muling pagkabuhay sa unang araw ng sanlinggo ang naging (quoting William Perkins) “tunay na simula ng bagong espirituwal na mundo kung saan tayo ay ginawang mga anak ng Diyos.” (Reformed Systematic Theology, 2:1130)

Kung ang tao ay nilikha sa larawan ng Diyos, in the image of God, si Cristo naman ang “image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15). Ang tao ay hindi Diyos. Pero si Cristo na Anak ng Diyos ay mismong larawan ng Diyos: “Nakikita sa Anak ang kaluwalhatian ng Diyos. Kung ano ang Diyos ay gayundin ang Anak” (Heb. 1:3). Siya yung “firstborn of all creation” (Col. 1:15) hindi dahil siya ang unang nilikha; no, hindi siya nilikha. Nag-iindicate yun ng kanyang supremacy over all creation, “Siya ang panganay na anak at pangunahin sa lahat ng mga nilikha” (MBB). Ang kanyang muling pagkabuhay ay nagpapahayag ng kanyang kadakilaan sa lahat: “Siya ang pasimula, siya ang panganay na binuhay mula sa kamatayan, upang siya’y maging pangunahin sa lahat” (Col. 1:18). Kaya kung babasahin natin ang account ng paglikha ng Diyos, especially ang paglikha ng Diyos sa tao, represented by the first human being Adam, hindi pwedeng hindi tayo maglalaan ng panahon to reflect on the Second and Last Adam (tulad ng ginawa ni Paul sa Romans 5:12-21). Kung paanong si Adam ay isang indibidwal at siyang representative din ng human race, si Cristo rin ay isang indbidwal at representative din “for the new humanity who enjoy life through the death and resurrection of Christ” (Mathews, Genesis 1-11, 112).

Theological Reflections

Maayos ang paglikha ng Diyos sa atin.

Lalaki at babae. Not women as lower beings. Not LGBTQ.

Makapangyarihan ang salita ng Diyos sa buhay natin.

Malawak ang kaharian ng Diyos na ipinagkatiwala sa atin.

Mabuti ang Diyos sa atin (napakabuti!).

Ephesians 1:19–23 “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Romans 8:10–11 “But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
