UNLOCKED – Week 2

The Lies That Lock Us

Numbers 13–14 | John 8:32

WELCOME (new tone, not repetitive)

Good evening everyone.
Before we get into the message tonight, I just want to say I really believe God is doing something in this season that is not just emotional… it’s transformational.
This series is not about hype. It’s not about just feeling encouraged for a moment. It’s about God dealing with things in our lives that have been there for years… sometimes quietly, sometimes deeply, sometimes in ways nobody else even knows.
Last week we talked about Invisible Chains — how you can love God and still have areas of your life that feel stuck, heavy, or hard to move forward in.
Tonight we go deeper.
Because many chains don’t stay in place because they are strong…
They stay in place because something in our mind agreed with them.
And I believe tonight the Holy Spirit wants to confront lies that have been speaking over people for years.
Not to shame you.
Not to expose you to hurt you.
But to unlock you.
Because Jesus said in John 8:32,
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
That means if truth makes you free… then lies keep you locked.
And I believe there are people here tonight who love God, serve God, pray, worship, show up… but there is still a voice in your head that keeps telling you something different than what God said.
And tonight God wants to silence that voice.

TRANSITION INTO STORY (prophetic tone)

I want to take you to Numbers 13.
This is one of the most powerful moments in the Bible because it shows us something that still happens today.
God had already spoken the promise.
The door was already open.
The land already belonged to them.
But they still didn’t walk in.
Not because God failed.
Not because the promise changed.
Because they believed the wrong report.
And if we’re honest… that still happens to believers today.
People who are saved but still feel stuck.
People who are forgiven but still feel guilty.
People who are called but still feel unqualified.
People who are loved but still feel rejected.
People who are free but still live like prisoners.
And many times the problem is not the devil.
It’s the lie we never stopped believing.

GOD HAD ALREADY SPOKEN

Numbers 13:1–2
“Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel…”
Notice the wording.
God did not say I might give it.
He did not say We’ll see what happens.
He said I am giving it.
The promise was already decided.
But here’s the part we don’t always talk about.
Even when God speaks a promise, your mind can still argue with it.
God says you’re forgiven, but your mind says remember what you did.
God says you’re called, but your mind says you’re not ready.
God says you’re free, but your mind says you always struggle.
God says move forward, but your mind says stay safe.
And the battle for your life is often not happening around you.
It’s happening in what you believe.

THEY SAW THE PROMISE… AND THE GIANTS

Numbers 13:27–28
“We went to the land… it truly flows with milk and honey… nevertheless the people are strong… the cities are fortified… and there are giants…”
Everything God said was true.
The land was good.
The promise was real.
But so were the giants.
And this is where lies start growing.
Not when life is easy.
Lies grow when what you see feels bigger than what God said.
When the problem looks bigger than the promise.
When the pain feels louder than the Word.
When the past feels stronger than your future.
And if you don’t guard your mind in those moments, fear will start talking.
And fear sounds reasonable.
Fear sounds logical.
Fear sounds safe.
But fear will keep you locked outside of what God already gave you.

THE LIE THAT LOCKED THEM

Numbers 13:33
“We were like grasshoppers in our own sight…”
This is the line that changes everything.
Not, the giants were too big.
Not, God didn’t help us.
Not, the promise wasn’t real.
They said,
We were like grasshoppers.
They saw themselves small.
And when you see yourself wrong, you live wrong.
They lost the battle in their mind before they ever stepped on the battlefield.
And that is exactly how the enemy still works.
He doesn’t have to stop God.
He just has to get you to believe something different than God said.
He whispers:
You’ll never change You’ll always struggle You’re not strong enough You’re too broken You messed up too bad You missed your chance You’re not like them You can’t do what God called you to do You’ll never get past this This is just who you are
And if you hear that long enough…
you start saying it yourself.
And once you say it yourself, the chain feels normal.

PROPHETIC MOMENT (speaking life)

I feel this strong right here.
Some of you have been calling yourself things God never called you.
You’ve been calling yourself weak.
Calling yourself stuck.
Calling yourself broken.
Calling yourself disqualified.
Calling yourself not ready.
Calling yourself not enough.
Calling yourself behind.
Calling yourself a failure.
And heaven has never said that about you.
God never called them grasshoppers.
They called themselves that.
And some of you are living under a name God never gave you.
But tonight the Lord is saying,
Stop agreeing with the lie.
Stop repeating what fear told you.
Stop calling permanent what I called temporary.
Stop calling identity what I called bondage.
Stop calling yourself small when I called you chosen.
Stop calling yourself stuck when I called you free.
Stop calling yourself weak when I put My Spirit inside of you.
And I believe tonight God wants to break the voice that has been speaking over your life for years.
JOSHUA AND CALEB — A DIFFERENT REPORT
But the story doesn’t end with the bad report.
There were two men who saw the same land… the same giants… the same cities… the same obstacles…
and believed something different.
Numbers 14:6–9
Joshua and Caleb tore their clothes and said, “The land we passed through is exceedingly good. If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land… Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people… the Lord is with us.”
Same situation.
Different belief.
Ten men said, We can’t.
Two men said, God can.
Ten men said, We’re small.
Two men said, God is big.
Ten men saw giants.
Two men saw promise.
And the difference between staying locked and walking free was not the land…
it was the report they believed.
Isaiah 53:1 says,
Whose report will you believe?
Because the report you believe will decide the life you live.
If you believe fear, you live small.
If you believe the past, you stay stuck.
If you believe shame, you hide.
If you believe failure, you stop trying.
If you believe God, you move forward.

STRONGHOLDS START IN THE MIND

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:4–5
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds… bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
A stronghold is not just a demon.
A stronghold is a way of thinking that keeps you locked.
It’s when your mind has been shaped by pain.
Shaped by rejection.
Shaped by failure.
Shaped by sin.
Shaped by fear.
Shaped by disappointment.
So even when God speaks truth, the lie argues back.
God says you’re forgiven, the lie says not really.
God says you’re called, the lie says not you.
God says go forward, the lie says stay safe.
God says you’re free, the lie says you’ll always struggle.
And some people are not stuck because God hasn’t helped them.
They’re stuck because the lie never got broken.

REAL LIFE — HOW LIES KEEP PEOPLE IN CYCLES

This is where it gets real.
Some people keep living the same cycle.
Same fear.
Same anger.
Same insecurity.
Same addiction.
Same relationship problems.
Same doubt.
Same discouragement.
Not because God hasn’t moved…
but because something inside still believes, “This is just who I am.”
You left Egypt…
but Egypt never left your mind.
You got saved…
but the lie stayed.
You were forgiven…
but you still see yourself guilty.
You were called…
but you still see yourself unqualified.
You were loved…
but you still feel rejected.
You were free…
but you still live like a prisoner.
And the enemy doesn’t mind you coming to church as long as you keep agreeing with the lie.
Because agreement keeps the door closed.

AGREEMENT IS WHAT LOCKS THE DOOR

The enemy suggested fear.
But the people agreed with it.
“We are grasshoppers.”
And the moment they agreed, the lock stayed.
The enemy can whisper…
but he can’t lock you without agreement.
Some people have agreed with lies for years.
I’ll never change I’ll always struggle Nothing works for me I’m not good enough God is disappointed in me I can’t trust anyone I’m too broken I missed my chance It’s too late This is just who I am
And every agreement becomes another chain.
Every agreement becomes another lock.
Every agreement keeps you outside the promise.
But tonight God is saying,
Break agreement with the lie.

PROPHETIC MOMENT — SPEAKING LIFE

I feel this strong right here.
Some of you have been living under a voice that has been talking to you for years.
A voice that tells you you’re not enough.
A voice that reminds you of your past.
A voice that tells you you’ll never change.
A voice that tells you you always mess up.
A voice that tells you you can’t be who God called you to be.
But that voice is not God.
God never called them grasshoppers.
God called them chosen.
God called them His people.
God called the land theirs.
And I believe tonight the Lord is saying,
You are not what fear told you.
You are not what failure told you.
You are not what rejection told you.
You are not what shame told you.
You are not what the past told you.
You are not what the enemy whispered.
You are who I said you are.
You are forgiven.
You are called.
You are loved.
You are chosen.
You are not stuck.
You are not finished.
You are not disqualified.
You are not too late.
You are not too broken.
You are not too far gone.
And what I promised you is still yours.

THEY NEVER ENTERED — AND THAT’S THE WARNING

The saddest part of the story…
They never went in.
Not because God failed.
Because they believed the wrong report.
They wandered for years…
because of one lie.
And I don’t know who this is for tonight,
but the Holy Spirit keeps pressing this in my heart:
You have wandered long enough.
You have stayed in the same place long enough.
You have listened to that voice long enough.
You have called yourself that long enough.
You have lived under that label long enough.
Tonight is the night the lie breaks.
Tonight is the night the agreement ends.
Tonight is the night the lock comes off.

ALTAR CALL — BREAKING AGREEMENT

Tonight I don’t want a normal altar call.
Tonight is not about emotion.
Tonight is about agreement.
If you know there is a lie you have been living under…
about yourself
about your past
about your future
about your worth
about your calling
about your ability to change
about what God can do in your life
I want you to come tonight.
Not because you feel bad.
Because you’re ready to break agreement.
Some of you need to say,
I’m done believing that.
I’m done calling myself that.
I’m done living under that voice.
I’m done agreeing with fear.
I’m done agreeing with shame.
I’m done agreeing with the past.
I’m done agreeing with the lie.
And tonight I choose to believe what God said.
If that’s you, come right now.

PRAYER

Father, in the name of Jesus,
Break every lie.
Break every agreement with fear.
Break every stronghold in the mind.
Tear down every false belief.
Silence every voice that is not Yours.
Where the enemy said grasshopper, let them see giant‑killer.
Where the enemy said stuck, let them see freedom.
Where the enemy said defeated, let them see victory.
Where the enemy said not enough, let them see chosen.
Renew minds.
Heal hearts.
Restore identity.
Unlock what has been locked.
We will not live under lies.
We will walk in truth.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
