The Journey
Luke
[TELL STORY]
Imagine the weekend these guys just had!
A week ago, It began with Jesus riding into town
Their new leader of a powerful grassroots movement
Had an eventful week...
Then, word spread through the night, he had been arrested after dinner on Thursday leading to this weekend
Put on trial, illegally, at night
They beat him, ripped him to pieces
Many disciples fled, some denied even knowing him
They hung him on a cross, as a sentence to death
“We stood stunned, wondering if God would do something”
Stop this, send an angel, something!
Then, there was an earthquake
Everything shook!
But it stopped, nothing happened
He died.
The women came to his tomb this morning said they found it empty.
Peter ran to see, but he saw no one.
Where was Jesus?
Was it true?
Where is He? Was it a lie?
Luke 24:25
Then Jesus goes all the way back to Moses and explains Scripture and the prohesies to these two as they walked to Emmaus.
[PAYOFF] - Jesus walked with them!
Luke 24:30
Luke 24:33-
The journey
Let’s talk about this 7-mile journey these two were on.
[TODAY] - I want us to see how there journey that day parallels our journey though life.
[SO] As we are examining, what as the first notable thing in this story?...
They couldn’t see Him.
Although Jesus was right there, they couldn’t see Him.
[PAYOFF] - What are we not recognizing in our lives?
Where can we see Jesus?
His work, His love, His grace, His purpose in our lives!
Luke 24:16
Know that He is on this journey with you!
In fact, He’s already walked in your shoes!
- For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are.
[SAY IT] - He is RISEN!
What else can we note about the couple on this journey?...
They forgot the truth.
Luke 24:21-
[FUNNY] - What were they expecting?
Jesus to be waiting on them to take Him to lunch?
They had forgotten all that had been said about this coming event.
[PAYOFF] - Have you even been so troubled, that you forgot what you knew was true?
Had sorrow, anger, or disappointment caused your mind to wonder into dark places?
Has it caused you to forget?
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE: You are the risen in Christ!
[SAY IT] - He is RISEN!
We know the truth of Christ.
We know He is alive
We know He is victorious
We know we are ALIVE, RISEN IN CHRIST!
They had a testimony.
[PLUG] - “Were our hearts not burning…” Still Series continues next week!
Sometimes we need “passion” to out weigh the storm...”
[PAYOFF] - You and I are just like these two in this story...
We’re on our own journey...
We may have experienced events that have caused us to lose hope.
But we cross paths with Jesus, and something draws us to Him
Our hearts burn!
But it’s not until we truly recognize Him, that things truth make since and come alive!
The bread, His body...
The wine, His blood...
[CALL] - THAT CAN BE YOU TODAY!
Once we see Jesus, our journey takes on a new purpose
OUR TESTIMONY OF CHRIST!
[SAY IT] - He is RISEN!
Come follow me
1. Walk with Jesus!
What is walking with Jesus?
Is it what you’ve thought it was?
Walk with Jesus = Walking risen!
Walking in the truth of Him
Walking in His victory, leaving the old life behind!
2. Know the Word!
We have to know the truth about this world and about ourselves and Christ.
What does the Bible say?
John 8:
3. Share your story!
There is another example of a powerful testimony = The Samaritan woman at the well.
She was in a bad situation, a bad life
She met Jesus and now she had a story
Goes into town to tell her story, brings everyone out to meet Jesus.
Take Away
We are His followers
We are those who’s lives have been changed forever
We have been risen in Christ Jesus!
We each are on our own journey.
There is no journey free of disappointment and lost hope - we’ve all walk there.
But we can open our eyes and see Jesus there.
We say that Easter is all about Jesus… and it is...
But truly, it’s all about you - You receiving Resurrection Life!
He did all of this for us!
To Jesus, the resurrection life we should celebrate is your’s!
Celebrate Resurrection Life!
