1. Passover: The First “New Beginning”

Start in Exodus 12.

Israel is in bondage

God sends judgment, but provides a way out

The lamb is sacrificed

The blood is applied

Death “passes over”

Key truth: Passover wasn’t just protection, it was a reset.

God literally tells them:

“This month shall be for you the beginning of months” (Exodus 12:2)

That means:

Their calendar changed

Their identity changed

Their future changed

They didn’t just escape Egypt They became a new people

2. The Problem: External Rescue vs Internal Change

Even after Passover:

Israel still struggled

Complained

Drifted back in heart toward Egypt

Why? Because Passover freed them physically …but not fully internally

This sets up the need for something greater.

Jesus: The Greater Passover Lamb

Bring in John 1:29

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

And 1 Corinthians 5:7

“Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”

Tie it together:

Passover lamb → temporary covering

Jesus → final and complete sacrifice

At Passover:

Blood on doorposts saved from physical death

At the cross:

Blood of Christ saves from spiritual death

Resurrection: The True New Beginning

Passover + crucifixion alone = forgiveness

Resurrection = new life

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

Not just:

new creation

Not improved Not patched Completely made new

What “New Creation” Really Means

Old has passed away:

old identity

old guilt

old chains

old life direction

New has come:

Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

new heart

new purpose

new spirit

new relationship with God

This is deeper than Israel leaving Egypt.

Israel left Egypt… But in Christ: Egypt is supposed to leave you

Application

Ask them to wrestle with this:

Are you just “out of Egypt”… or actually new?

Have you experienced forgiveness… or transformation?

Are you living like the old life still defines you?

Because: The blood of Jesus doesn’t just make you safe It makes you new

At Passover, the people stayed inside the house marked by blood At the resurrection, the stone was rolled away and Jesus walked out

One kept death out The other brought life out
