SERMON: Grace - Love - Communion
TEXT:
2 Corinthians 13:14 (NKJV)
14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
GOAL = To bring understanding of WHO The Holy Spirit is and WHAT His role?
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
He is the third person of the TRINITY - Equal in Divinity and Authority…
At times because He is mentioned 3rd that He is less God than the Father and Jesus - But they are ONE - a perfect UNION…
He has been there since the beginning - Heb 9:14 He is the eternal Spirit...
To know the Father - Jesus said if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father and to know Jesus - Jesus said the Holy Spirit will take of what is His and declare it to us…
We pray to the Father, in the name of Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
Because of the title Holy Ghost/Spirit - believers have reduced Him, to a mystical figure - or just a force with no personality…
He is not just a POWER or an INFLUENCE, but that He is a PERSON with power, a person that carries a presence and has a personality...
HE IS A PERSON:
He is a PERSON and He is referred to as a HE not an IT.
In John 14-16 Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as He, Him or Himself - 19 times.
Although He came down upon Jesus LIKE a DOVE He is not a DOVE - just as Jesus is the Lamb of God, He is not a lamb.
He is a PERSON with a WILL and EMOTIONS.
The Holy Spirit has:
Mind
Romans 8:27 (NKJV)
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Will
1 Corinthians 12:11 (NKJV)
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Emotions
Ephesians 4:29–32 (NKJV)
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:30 (AMP)
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him],
Suppressed:
1 Thessalonians 5:19 (AMP)
19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;
Lied to:
Acts 5:3 (NKJV)
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?
As God He seeks a relationship with us...
The other word for COMMUNION is the Greek word Koinonia =
Means: Fellowship Partnership
Companionship Intimacy Close association
Relationship with Him includes:

1. Fellowship = two-way communication

Biblical Evidence:

📖 Acts 20:22–23
The Holy Spirit warned Paul “in every city” about suffering.
📖 Acts 10:19
“The Spirit said to him, ‘Behold, three men are seeking you.’”
📖 Acts 8:29
“Go near and overtake this chariot.”
📖 Acts 16:6–7
“They were forbidden by the Holy Spirit…”
👉 Question raised:
We should learn to TALK less and LISTEN more…
We can shut God out - by shutting out the Holy Spirit.

2. Partnership (working together)

📖 Acts 15:28
“It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us…”
📖 Acts 20:28
“The Holy Spirit has made you overseers…”
📖 Acts 13:2
“Separate to Me Barnabas and Saul…”
📖 Acts 13:4
“Sent out by the Holy Spirit…”
👉 Key idea:
The Holy Spirit actively assigns roles, sends people, and leads ministry.
Romans 8:14 (NKJV)
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Two types of Christians those who are lead by their emotions, fears, anxieties, unforgiveness, anger or those who are lead by the Holy Spirit.
He is the One that leads us - we do not lead Him.
Who or what is LEADING you?

3. Intimacy (deep connection)

1 Corinthians 6:15–20 (NLT)
15 Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! 16 And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” 17 But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. 18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Closing:
WHAT DID JESUS SAY ABOUT HIM?
John 14:16–17 (AMP)
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever— 17 The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.
Another = Greek
Heteros - means another of a different sort.
Allos - means another of the same kind.
Helper = Greek
Parakletos = Para (very close) + Kaleo (to call)
Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby!!!
Never leave you
“But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.”
John 14:26 (NKJV)
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
He will teach you and bring to remembrance everything Jesus spoke
John 16:7–14 (NKJV)
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
He reveals to us who Jesus is, He always reveals who Jesus is, reminds us of what Jesus says, He is the giver of Gifts, He is the Power of God functioning on the earth… He raised Jesus from the dead,
