Who is Jesus - Palm Sunday

Call to Worship: Zech 9:9

Good morning!

My name is Josh Clink,

And I am one of the members of TCC.

This morning is the start of what is called Holy Week,

Or Passion Week.

It is a week dedicated to the remembrance of Jesus Christ.

More specifically,

A week dedicated to remembering His death and resurrection on our behalf.

Making Him worthy of our worship!

So, I’d like to invite you to stand,

And hear this call to worship from Zech. 9:9

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

Zechariah 9:9

We worship Jesus, our King,

Who left a throne of endless glory,

To come to us in righteousness and humility,

Fulfilling the law and prophets,

Like the one we just heard,

To suffer and die for our salvation,

And to conquer death.

Because Jesus is not just any king,

He is the King of kings!

So, let us praise the King of kings together now!

Adoration: Psalm 24:7-9

How great is our God!

How great is our Lord!

How great is our King!

It is so important that we can understand and comprehend who Jesus is,

So, we can rightly respond with adoration more and more!

Let us consider who our King is together as He is presented in Psalm 24,

I invite you to read the gold portions along with me.

“Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!

Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.”

Psalm 24:7-9

Jesus Christ is the King of glory!

Because He is God,

And He entered the gates of the city,

To gladly bear our burdens on the cross,

Where He bled and died to take away our sin!

My God...How great Thou art!

Let’s sing this together now.

Confession: Who Christ is, is who we aren’t

The more we understand Who Jesus is,

The more we are humbled by who we are in contrast.

Jesus is all-powerful,

We are weak.

Jesus is all-knowing,

We are often deaf to His Words.

Jesus is wisdom,

We are foolish.

Most bluntly,

Jesus is Savior,

Because we are sinners.

So, as we grow in our knowledge and understanding of Who Christ is,

Let us confess who we are in contrast,

By praying this prayer adapted from The Valley of Vision together,

Would you pray this with me?

Father, I plead Jesus’ blood to pay my debts of wrong. Accept His worthiness for my unworthiness, His sinlessness for my transgressions, His purity for my uncleanness, His sincerity for my duplicity, His truth for my deceits, His meekness for my pride, His constancy for my backslidings, His love for my hatred, His fullness for my emptiness, His faithfulness for my disloyalty, His obedience for my lawlessness, His glory for my shame, His devotedness for my waywardness, His holy life for my impure ways, His righteous faithfulness for my faithless works, His death for my life. Amen.

Let us continue this heart posture,

As we sing Christ Our Wisdom.

Assurance: Titus 3:4-7

We need Jesus.

Both because of Who Jesus is,

And because of who we are.

Only Jesus can save us.

And that is of great assurance to us!

Because we aren’t able to save ourselves!

But the One Who is able to save us,

Is filled with goodness and loving-kindness toward us!

He is merciful to save us,

And restore us to Himself!

So, no matter how cold our hearts may get,

How far we wander,

How mighty our enemy,

How many times we fall,

How lost we feel,

How heavy the darkness,

Jesus Christ is working all things for our good,

And for His glory!

Hear these words of assurance from Titus 3:4-7:

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Titus 3:4-7

We are assured of these things,

Not on the basis of who we are,

But because we trust in the faithfulness of Jesus Christ.

Let us sing of this assurance now.

Let us go before the Lord now to respond to Him with gladness and thanksgiving.

Benediction

We begin each gathering with a call to worship,

And we end with a benediction,

A blessing for you to take with you from this place.

And as a symbol of receiving this blessing,

You can hold out your hands as a gesture of reception.

As we prepare to leave,

Trinity, hear this word as a blessing from God to you:

“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood”...“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” Amen!
