TURN: We can use the same words but mean very different things. It’s not enough to use the right words when it comes to Jesus…
1. The crowd gets all the words right—but they’re worshiping a Jesus they invented (Develop Inductively)(Mark 11:1-10)
Jesus tells the disciples to grab a colt “for the Lord” (Mark 11:1-6)
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds treated him like a conquering king (Mark 11:7-10)
The crowds recognized Jesus as the Messiah—but they think he’s going to overthrow Rome
Main Idea: We need to worship the Jesus who exists, not the Jesus we invented
What are some versions of Jesus we have invented?
Jesus the great teacher
Jesus the great example
Jesus the political activist
Jesus that always agrees with me
CONCLUSION: We don’t have the option of creating a Jesus in our image. We don’t get to worship a Jesus we invented. The real Jesus is worthy of all our worship and praise. Let’s worship him.
