Recap:
Last time we were together
Peter failed to pray in the garden and spiritually renew his mind so he relied on the flesh.
Failing to renew you mind results in fear
Failing to renew your mind results in distance with God.
Failing to renew your mind results in vulnerability.
Failing to renew your mind results in denying Christ.
Redemption of Peter as he returns… Loves Christ and goes back to doing what he was meant to do… feeding the sheep.

V.1-10
Matthew 27:2 “And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor.”
Pontius Pilate was governor over the region of Judea and he held the power to decide legal cases like a judge
so he determined if someone was worthy of the death sentence.
The Jewish elders and priest did not have the authority of death sentance because Rome took it away from them
thats why they could not kill Jesus
But had to make Rome do it.
Matthew 27:3 “Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,”
remorseful-
Feeling regret but neglects to truly repent.
and throws money into temple trying to atone
trying to fix his mistake by returning what he took
but it is not enough
Matthew 27:4 “saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!””
“What is that to us? You see to it!”
Are you kidding me!?!
this was their own money that they paid
If these pharisees really cared, they would consider Judas’ response
but they were seeking the death sentence… not truth
They cared more about this man simply handing Jesus over than if it was right…
And they couldn’t care less about Judas after he had completed what they wanted to do…
Could you imagine someone younger than you telling you about someone they thought was going to rob a gas station…
their super scared and freaking out
and you are able to do something about this, maybe call the cops on them or tell your principal
and then they tell you, no I figured it out I was all wrong!
It was someone else!
And your like…
Don’t care, you figure it out!
And then your worried about wether or not you donated enough money to the girl scouts
They are completely confused and twisted in their thinking…
And not only that but
Judas comes to them seeking help…
he is just realized what he has done, that he is sinful…
And he tells these priests and elders…
And they do nothing.
Their job was to help people with their sin, to atone for it and teach them how to follow God.
But instead they reject Judas and he ends up dying
be careful lest you fall into that same trap.
Legalism not love…
Duty without devotion
perfection without the perfecter
And Judas had remorse for what he did but he didn’t have repentance.
He should have gone to Jesus and asked for forgiveness
but instead he judged himself unworthy and ended his life…
Suicide is never the answer
My brother (Scott) took his life
But bring your weight, bring your failures, bring your not enoughness to the cross
and Jesus will take them because He is enough.
If I can encourage all of You, no matter where you at this morning.
You can bring your life to Jesus
And he will always forgive.
Judas would have been forgiven.
Matthew 27:6 “But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood.””

The goal of the scourging was to weaken the victim to a state just short of collapse and death. “As the Roman soldiers repeatedly struck the victim’s back with full force, the iron balls would cause deep contusions, and the leather thongs and sheep bones would cut into the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Then, as the flogging continued, the lacerations would tear into the underlying skeletal muscles and produce quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh. Pain and blood loss generally set the stage for circulatory shock. The extent of blood loss may well have determined how long the victim would survive the cross.” (Edwards)
