· 4 viewsJonah knew what God was asking—but he ran. In this message, we’ll see how running from God often leads us in the wrong direction, costs more than we expect, and impacts more than just us. The good news? It’s never too late to turn back, respond to God’s mercy, and say yes—especially as we head into Easter.

Message Title: Wrong Boat
Jonah Intro: Fish?… Actually one man’s disobedience
ME: If we’re honest thats what makes Jonah so relatable.
ME: If we’re honest thats what makes Jonah so relatable.
Have you ever had one of those moments…
where you knew exactly what God was asking you to do…
and you just didn’t want to do it?
Not because you didn’t love God…
not because you didn’t believe…
it was just hard.
I’ve had moments like that… where I knew the right move…
I just didn’t like what it would cost me.”
We: And if we’re being real… most of us aren’t confused about what God said…
we’re conflicted about how we feel about it.
We: And if we’re being real… most of us aren’t confused about what God said…
we’re conflicted about how we feel about it.
And what we’re going to see in Jonah’s life…
is that when we delay obedience…
it doesn’t make things easier…
it usually makes things harder.”

**Point 1 - Wrong Boat
Jonah 1:1-2 - The call, the great city Ninevah… what’s so hard about saying yes?
Jonah 1:3 - The Boat that he finds.
Just because you found it doesn’t mean God sent it.
Because You’ll always find thing when you are running away from God. Relationship, Opportunity, anything.
Proverbs 14:12 - Backs this up.
Jonah found a boat. It made sense. It was available. It felt right.
You can find opportunity, open doors, even comfort about something and be completely outside of Gods will if you are not saying yes to what God has specifically asked you to do.
***Point 2 - Public Consequence
Jonah thought this was just secretly between him and God but it affected everyone around him.
Jonah 1:11-12 -
Private disobedience often leads to public consequence.
Your family, friends, relationships, reputation.
***Point 3: The Fish was Mercy
Now this fish shows up and its easy for it to look like punishment… but it was Mercy
Without the storm Jonah keeps running.
Without the fish Jonah never turns
Sometimes God allows discomfort to redirect you, not hurt you
***Point 4 - God’s Heart behind it all
Jonah 3:1-5 - Jonah’s greatest fear turned out to be one of the greatest revivals
What’s crazy is that it took longer to actually prepare Jonah than it did for Nineveh to repent.
The delay was not on God
The delay was not on the People
It was on the obedience of the messenger.
Matthew 9:37 - Jesus echo’s this. The harvest isn’t actually the issue. The workers are
You: Where in your life are you running from what God has already said?
You: Where in your life are you running from what God has already said?
Where is your Ninevah? Not because it’s catchy but thats how you study scripture. We learn about the specific context, and then we half to ask… how do I apply this to me?
So where’s your Ninevah? What has God been asking of you that you tend to run from?
- For some of you it’s the big things we often mention…
- For some of you it’s the smaller things we sometimes overlook at times… gossip, giving/tithe, words for 2026
Maybe something in your life feels uncomfortable right now.
You know what’s cool… if you’re uncomfortable. It’s not bad… it’s actually God’s mercy.
We: The Good News… before Easter’s good news..
We: The Good News… before Easter’s good news..
It wasn’t too late for Jonah or Ninevah… and it’s not too late for us.
It wasn’t too late for Jonah to turn and it’s not too late for you to turn.
It wasn’t too late for Ninevah and it’s not too late for the harvest all around us.
Alter Call:
Alter Call:
Stop running
Say yes to obedience
Respond to God’s mercy
It’s a new day… you’ve got every reason to praise God
