Blessed Is He Who Comes!

Christ Received with Shouts of Hosanna!

The Lord entered Jerusalem at the climax of history. This event occured to the day that Daniel had prophesied.

The Seventy Week Prophecy in Daniel 9:26 - at the end of the 69th week (483 years) from the order to rebuild Jerusalem under Nehemiah the Messiah was cut off. Jesus rode into Jerusalem in proclamation that he is Messiah in fulfillment.

It had was done with a prophetic declaration. Psalm 118:19–26

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the Lord. 20 This is the gate of the Lord; The righteous will enter through it. 21 I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered me, And You have become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. 23 This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 O Lord, do save, we beseech You; O Lord, we beseech You, do send prosperity! 26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.

It occured with the detail that had been prophesied.

Zechariah 9:9 ESV

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

The people were expecting a political and military leader. Jesus came humbly bring a spiritual kingdom and salvation of their souls.

Verse 16 - the disciples remembered these things AFTER Jesus was glorified. The Triumphal Entry was NOT the moment of glory for Christ!

Christ is Glorified in the Salvation of Sinners (23-33)

The whole world is coming to Christ and yet he pointed them to the principle of resurrection.

To bear fruit, Jesus must be sacrificed for others.

Jesus is troubled in his soul. He knew the suffering that he must face to redeem us.

He came for this purpose. All of history revolves around his purpose in this moment.

Jesus conquered through his suffering for our sin. He defeated Satan and the curse of sin by offering Himself in our place.

It is in the cross that Jesus draws all men to himself. Everyone must make a decision about Christ. His death demands a decision. On one side a thief mocked Jesus, on the other a thief asked for mercy from Christ.
