Jesus Is Buried
Jesus Is Buried
23-50
Joseph and Nicodemus had to get Jesus into the tomb before the Sabbath started at 6 pm
the women were watching to know where the body of Jesus was put
then everybody Had to go home and spend the next day at home because it was the Sabbath day
This was a time of great mourning And weeping because everyone had thought that Jesus was the Messiah, their leader, the Christ, who was going to redeem Israel
If we go down to verse 18 of chapter 24, we see these two followers of Jesus discussing and telling Jesus what had happened in Jerusalem that past weekend
And they were quite distraught because of the fact that they thought that Jesus was going to redeem them both entirely and bring them into the kingdom of God
Everyone at this time was very very distraught and they were crying because they had forgotten what Jesus had told them was going to happen
Maybe they didn’t forget they just didn’t want to think about what Jesus was saying was gonna happen and they’ve just dismissed it and put it out of their mind
But now they are in mourning
So this is what these people these women these disciples were thinking about all weekend long
So now we come to chapter 24 1-3
Why Are You Looking For The Dead
Why Are You Looking For The Dead
The women had made plans to go first thing in the morning as soon as they were able to see to walk
as soon as the gates of Jerusalem were opened
In the other gospels, as the women are making their way there, they are discussing how are we going to roll away the stone?
But to their surprise when they get there, the stone has been rolled away, and they entered into the tomb
The only thing that was there was the linen cloth that Jesus was wrapped in
This linen cloth was laid out as if it was as if it was still on the body of Jesus
Jesus had come through the cloth and left it laying there
We want to say he come through like a ghost, but Jesus is not a ghost he’s real
But in his new glorified body that we will acquire at the rapture
When we ourselves are raised from the dead
V 4-6
Suddenly, there were two angels there we find out in the other gospels that these are angels
And they’re telling them what happened with Jesus
And they’re asking the women why are you seeking the Dead when you should be looking for the living?
This should have been a weekend that they were rejoicing instead of weeping
They had the prophets they had Isaiah 53.
V 7
They had Jesus multiple times telling them that he’s gonna go to Jerusalem and die and be raised again.
This is exactly what the father wanted Jesus to do when he came here
This is exactly what the father needed for Jesus to do to be able to redeem His people
And this is something that the women and the disciples should have known
V 8 The women remembered the words of Jesus
they have seen the angels and have seen the empty tomb
And they remembered what Jesus said
V 9
And they reported these things to the disciples wherever they were
I’m sure that it was an excitement in their voices and excitement in their eyes
reporting that Jesus had rose from the dead reporting that the engrave was empty
V 10
And the apostles should have had the same reaction
But these men were total defeatist
These men just spent the weekend, wondering how wrong they were in following Jesus
Thinking that Jesus was the Messiah and now he’s dead
Now these silly women are coming and giving us fairytales about Jesus being alive
Unbelief
Unbelief
V 18-24
They also have been told
But they didn’t believe, they too dismissed the words of Jesus
And even after the women came, they told them what it happened. They still didn’t believe.
They still were in mourning. Their world has been shattered
We also have this problem
We don’t believe the promises of the Bible
When things go wrong in our lives, we get discouraged. We may panic. We think there’s nothing that can be done.
But Jesus has promised us over and over again, not to worry not to fret
God is in control of all things
But we live a defeated life because of unbelief
Yeah, we forget that and we live our lives as if We are all alone
This also Happens to those who are un regenerated
They cannot believe they will not believe, even though they’ve been told over and over again the gospel
They have a will and a heart that refuses or cannot believe
V 12
But Peter, he’s going to at least check this out
And he observes in the tomb, and sees the linen the way it was on the body of Jesus
Whether he believed or not, we don’t know, but he did have something to think about
The First Day

the first day of redemption
the first day of hope
the first day of a new creation
the first day of whole new world coming into existence
Jesus has been resurrected, our savior lives
One Day by J Wilbur Chapman
1 One day when heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He!
Refrain
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely, forever;
One day He’s coming: O glorious day!
2 One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected,
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He! [Refrain]
3 One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He! [Refrain]
4 One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered,
Now is ascended, my Lord ever more! [Refrain]
5 One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glory will shine;
Wonderful day, my beloved ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine! [Refrain]
