39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Introduction:
We gather on Good Friday because there is not enough time on Sunday to deal with the Cross.
Sunday is about the resurrection—
Tonight is about the salvation.
Tonight we slow down.
Tonight we look again at the Cross.
Jesus was born to live as a perfect example of our faith,
He was also born to die, for me, and for you!
from the moment he entered the world ,
The shadow of the Cross was already upon Him.
Bethlehem only makes sense when you Understand Calvary.
The Cross was always the plan.
The Cross was always the plan.
Before there was a Cross in Jerusalem,
There was a prophecy in Scripture.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; 17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.
The beating was not random.
The sufferings was not accidental.
The Cross Was not a tragedy.
This was the plan of God.
God told us what He was going to do .…
Before we knew we needed Him to do it.
So, when Jesus was born—
He was not born into uncertainty.
He was born into assignment.
Jesus was born to die for sin.
Jesus was born to die for sin.
21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Jesus did not just come to teach.
He did not just come to heal.
He did not just come to be an example.
He came to deal with sin.
The Cross was not a back up plan,
It was the mission!
Jesus is the final lamb.
Jesus is the final lamb.
All throughout the Old Testament, lambs where sacrificed.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
Every lamb pointed to Him.
Every sacrifice anticipated Him.
Pastor Deadra A Physician's View of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ Dr. C. Truman Davis.
Jesus is the Final Lamb!
The lamb in the Old Testament covered sin—
Jesus came to take away Sin!
The Cross demands a response.
The Cross demands a response.
Now we come to the Cross
39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”
Two men.
Two crosses.
One Savior.
One mocks Him.
One recognizes Him.
Same moment
Same opportunity.
Different response.
You don’t choose whether you face the cross —
You chose how you respond to it.
Salvation is simple—But personal.
Salvation is simple—But personal.
42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
No time to fix his life.
No chance to make it right.
No religious performance.
Just one moment of faith.
“Lord… remember me.”
Salvation is immediate and complete.
Salvation is immediate and complete.
42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
Not next week.
Not after improvement.
Not after improving himself.
Today.
That is the power of the Cross.
Prophecy fulfilled.
Sin paid for.
Salvation offered.
Closing— THE EVANGELISTIC MOMENT.
Everyone in the room is like those two thieves.
You are not neutral.
Not just watching.
One rejected Him
One recieved Him.
And tonight—
You must decide what you will do with the Cross.
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
You don’t clean yourself up first.
You don’t earn this.
You respond.
Final Landing
Jesus was born to die.
The Lamb was prepared.
The price was paid.
Now the question is not “what did Jesus do?”
The question is:
What will you do with what He has done?
