31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
💡 Illustration: There’s an old story about an eagle egg that was stolen from the nest by a Raccoon. I’m it’s haste to escape without being caught it dropped the Egg into a Some high grass and somehow survived unharmed. A farmer happened to notice the egg in the grass and thought I’ll just put it in the chicken coop. A hen took it as her own it hatched, the eaglet grew up among the chickens. It scratched in the dirt… pecked at crumbs… and never lifted its eyes very high. One day, A shadow past by and it looked up and saw a mighty eagle soaring across the sky. It asked, “What is that?” A chicken replied, “That’s an eagle—the king of the birds. But don’t worry… you’ll never be like him.” And for a while… it believed that lie. But one day, something changed. A strong wind began to blow across the farmyard. As the little eagle stood there, the wind lifted its feathers. For the first time, it felt something stirring deep inside—something it had never felt before. It spread its wings… unsure, trembling… And suddenly, the wind caught it. It lifted off the ground. At first just inches… then a foot… then higher and higher… Until that eagle that once lived like a chicken… was soaring like it was always meant to.
📌 The Eagle wasn’t becoming something new—it was becoming what it always was purposed to be.
Jesus didn’t come merely to improve you—God has already designed and equipped you with everything necessary to fulfill your divine purpose.
The issue isn’t a lack of ability, but a matter of discovering and refining what He has already placed within you.
He came to awaken what sin tried to Shackle.
📌 You are not defined by where you’ve been—
but by the direction you choose and the decisions you make from this day forward.
Simon Peter was a man made for more.
He had some glimpses of greatness in the gospels :
• He walked on water… then sank.
• He declared, “Thou art the Christ”… then rebuked Jesus.
• He drew a sword in boldness… then denied Jesus in fear.
Over and over again, Peter lived beneath what he was called to be.
Like that eagle scratching in the dirt… He had the wings—but he wasn’t flying.
📌 Here is a man made for more, born to fly… But instead of Soaring like an Eagle, He is scratching the ground like a Chicken
I. OUR DESIGN
I. OUR DESIGN
Question, Are you living in your calling, are you currently where God wants you to be?
A. Peter Was Deliberately Chosen
A. Peter Was Deliberately Chosen
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
• Jesus didn’t call Peter to mediocrity—He called him to ministry.
B. Peter Was Divinely Shaped
B. Peter Was Divinely Shaped
• Bold, passionate, outspoken—All the raw material for a revival preachers
• He was not perfect, but positioned.
God doesn’t call the perfect, but God knows what He has designed within each of you. You may not see it, you may not feel it, you may not understand how…. But I bet you have thought about it, dreamed about it, Your Spirit has stirred around what God has called you to do
Years before I preached publicly, I preached in my Spirit, in my mind and when I was alone God stirred and poured out His Spirit with in me
📌 God never calls you based on what you are—He calls you based on what you can become.
II. OUR DOWNFALL
II. OUR DOWNFALL
— We can be Crippled by Failure
A. Peter failed repeatedly
A. Peter failed repeatedly
• He sank when he should’ve stood
• He spoke when he should’ve listened
• He slept when he should’ve prayed
• He denied when he should’ve defended
• Failure after failure… weakness after weakness…
B. Peter fell hardest at the fire
B. Peter fell hardest at the fire
Luke 22:61–62 “And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.”
• The look of Jesus broke him.
• His confidence collapsed.
• His courage crumbled.
Illustration: “The Olive Press” In the land where Jesus walked, olives were not useful until they were crushed. A farmer would gather his olives and take them to the press. There, heavy stones would roll over them, grinding and pressing until the oil began to flow. But here’s the truth— no crushing… no oil. The olive doesn’t give its richest oil on the tree. It doesn’t produce it in comfort. It only produces when it is placed under pressure. And the greater the pressure… the purer the oil.
What comes out in the crushing
is what was always inside.
That’s why an old preacher could say,
“I’ve never known a preacher worth his salt that hadn’t been crushed in God’s olive press.”
Because:
It’s in the crushing that pride is broken
It’s in the pressing that character is formed
It’s in the suffering that anointing flows
God doesn’t use untouched vessels—
He uses broken ones that have been through the press.
If there is oil in your life… there will be a press.
And if God is pressing you… it’s because He’s preparing to pour something out of you.
📌 Failure has a way of convincing you that you are finished.
But Gods not done with you!! You are made for more
III. OUR DELIVERANCE
III. OUR DELIVERANCE
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
A. We See His Purpose
A. We See His Purpose
After the cross… after the grave…
Jesus came looking for Peter.
But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
Peter was called to be a fisher of men, yet he is casting his net in the wrong place!
“lovest thou me more than these?”
Make up your mind, Fishermen or evangelist
• Not condemnation—restoration.
• Not rejection—recommission.
B. We See The Promise
B. We See The Promise
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
• That wind was the power Peter was missing.
• That wind was what lifted him from failure to fullness.
📌 Easter gave him life—Pentecost gave him lift.
C. We See The Power
C. We See The Power
The same man who:
• Denied Christ before a servant girl…
Now stands before thousands.
The same man who:
• Once cursed and ran…
Now preaches Christ crucified and risen.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Illustration: In 1921 Myra Brooks Welch composed a poem after hearing a speaker talk to a group of students about how God brings out the best in people. Welch later described feeling “filled with light,” and the words came to her almost as if the poem wrote itself.
’Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer Thought it scarcely worth his while To waste much time on the old violin, But he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bid, good people?" he cried, "Who start the bidding for me?" "One dollar, one dollar — do I hear two?" "Two dollars — who makes it three?"
"Three dollars once, three dollars twice, Going for three" — but no! From the room far back, a gray-haired man Came forward and picked up the bow.
Then, wiping the dust from the old violin, And tightening up the strings, He played a melody pure and sweet, As sweet as an angel sings.
The music ceased, and the auctioneer, With a voice that was soft and low, Said, "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow.
"A thousand dollars — and who’ll make it two? Two thousand — and who’ll make it three? Three thousand once, three thousand twice, And going, and gone," said he.
The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not quite understand What changed its worth?" Swift came the reply: "The touch of the Master’s hand."
And many a man with life out of tune, And battered and scarred with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, Much like the old violin.
A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine, A game — and he travels on. He’s "going" once, and he’s "going" twice, He’s "going" and almost "gone."
But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd Never can quite understand The worth of a soul and the change that’s wrought By the touch of the Master’s hand.
That’s what happens when a life gets touched by God.
You may feel overlooked, broken, You may feel like you’ve wasted years
But when God gets His hands on you and you surrender to Him
He brings out what was always inside you.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus”
Peter was always an eagle…
But it wasn’t until Acts 2—he finally caught the wind.
God is issuing a Call to Rise
You were made for more!!
