Sub-Series - Woes and Crises, Part D

Background

The outline of Isaiah 32

the reign of righteousness - vv. 1-8
the call to mourning - vv. 9-15
the reign of righteousness continued - vv. 16-20

Main Idea

The reign of righteousness on earth contains two important elements
the divine element - the rule of the Righteous God
the human element - the desire for righteous governance
Israel lost the reign of righteousness in their midst for 2 reasons -
the men who ruled them were wicked
the people became complacent in their attitude the evil that’s happening around them
God promised the reign of righteousness over His people in a distant past.
God requires that the people will not be complacent this time.

Main Points

The people’s responsibility to pray for their government
Righteous government as God’s reward and blessing

The people of God has a responsibility to pray for their government and leadership

The text: God calls on the “women who are at ease” -

Isaiah 32:9–14 NASB 2020
9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, And hear my voice; Listen to my word, You complacent daughters. 10 Within a year and a few days You will be troubled, you complacent daughters; For the vintage is ended, And the fruit gathering will not come. 11 Tremble, you women who are at ease; Be troubled, you complacent daughters; Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist, 12 Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine, 13 For the land of my people in which thorns and briars will come up; Indeed, for all the joyful houses and for the jubilant city. 14 For the palace has been neglected, the populated city abandoned. Hill and watch-tower have become caves forever, A delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,
“Rise up” - to stand, to face the problem headon
“Tremble” - to feel the horror of what’s happening
Beat your breasts - be remorseful
Jesus taught us to pray for God’s will to be fulfilled on earth - Matthew 6.9-10
Matthew 6:9–10 NASB 2020
9 “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
good governance and bad governance both affect our lives.
Why pray for it? when we pray we declare its importance for us
We need to pray for good earthly governance
pray for your local government leaders
1 Timothy 2:1–2 NASB 2020
1 First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
We need to pray for good church governance
pray for your church elders to rule well
pray for church deacons to function well
pray for the volunteers in church tasks and works
We need to pray for good governance over our kids
single sisters - pray for a good husband, and a father of your future children
wives - pray for your husbands to rule well and govern well

Pray for your community

We must also be concerned about our neighborhood

A righteous government is God’s reward and blessing to the people desire it

The text: Isaiah lists down the marks of the reign of righteousness

Isaiah 32:1–5 NASB 2020
1 Behold, a king will reign righteously, And officials will rule justly. 2 Each will be like a refuge from the wind And a shelter from the storm, Like streams of water in a dry country, Like the shade of a huge rock in an exhausted land. 3 Then the eyes of those who see will not be blinded, And the ears of those who hear will listen. 4 The mind of the rash will discern the truth, And the tongue of the stammerers will hurry to speak clearly. 5 No longer will the fool be called noble, Or the rogue be spoken of as generous.
the rule of just officials (v.1)
the masses are protected (v.2)
the people are enlightened (v.3-4)
the fools are exposed (v.5-8)
the fields become fruitful (v.16)
the people live in peace (v.17-18)
Isaiah 32:16–18 NASB 2020
16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, And righteousness will remain in the fertile field. 17 And the work of righteousness will be peace, And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. 18 Then my people will live in a peaceful settlement, In secure dwellings, and in undisturbed resting places;
If these things exist in one society -
it could only have been done by God!
but also because the community aspired for it!
If these things are missing in one society -
it is because the people have become complacent
it is because the people in that community do not care enough to ask for these things
all they do is complain and grumble
Matthew 5:6 NASB 2020
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
The reign of righteousness in the Millennium is God’s reward and blessing to the people who long for righteousness, justice and peace to rule.
Matthew 25:31–40 NASB 2020
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 And all the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, just as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, but the goats on the left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’
this event takes place at the beginning of Christ’s millennial reign
the people to the right side were described as “righteous”
they performed righteous acts because they longed for it in their lives and communities!

God is able to give people good governance

Shepherds who will feed His flock
Jeremiah 3:14–15 NASB 2020
14 ‘Return, you faithless sons,’ declares the Lord; ‘For I am a master to you, And I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, And bring you to Zion.’ 15 “Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you knowledge and understanding.
We should be praying for the gifts of Christ to the Church - Ephesians 4.10-14
Ephesians 4:10–14 NASB 2020
10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) 11 And He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of people, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
We should be praying for good leadership in our homes!
men who will lead their homes in faithful Christian living
Ephesians 6:4 NASB 2020
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9 NASB 2020
4 “Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. 8 You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. 9 You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Conclusion

God is calling for the women to become proactive in their roles

Like Zipporah, who saved Moses from harm
Exodus 4:22–26 NASB 2020
22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Israel is My son, My firstborn. 23 So I said to you, ‘Let My son go so that he may serve Me’; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, I am going to kill your son, your firstborn.” ’ ” 24 But it came about at the overnight encampment on the way, that the Lord met Moses, and sought to put him to death. 25 So Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and threw it at Moses’ feet; and she said, “You are indeed a groom of blood to me!” 26 So He left him alone. At that time she said, You are a groom of blood”—because of the circumcision.
Like Rahab - she saved her household from destruction by one righteous act
Joshua 2:12–14 NASB 2020
12 Now then, please swear to me by the Lord, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s household, and give me a pledge of truth, 13 and spare my father and my mother, and my brothers and my sisters, and all who belong to them, and save our lives from death.” 14 So the men said to her, “Our life for yours if you do not tell this business of ours; and it shall come about when the Lord gives us the land that we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.”
