John 4:1-42

Jesus baptising may have been a hold up and a prideful thing for others.
who was Samaritans?
John 1-6
-Judea to Galilee
-he “had” to pass through Samaria.
-Jew and Samarians were hostile to each other, Many believed Jews would go around Samaria to go to Galilee.
-Another reason to go through Samaria was to possibly get rid of the crowds.

John 7-15

-Woman was most likely a social outcaste as noon was hottest day and not the time to be carrying water.
-Jewish men would never talk to a Samaritan women.

John 19-26

-Woman asked where to worship God as Samaritans thought on Mount Gerizim where Abraham and Jacob and worshiped, Jews believed to worship in Jerusalem.
-Jesus is saying you are to worship God everywhere.
-Women knows the scriptures of the coming Messiah.
-We learn immediately that place is irrelevant and that worship is not primarily in body—through physical motions and activities—but in spirit. The text does not refer to the Holy Spirit but an attitude of heart which acknowledges God and his sovereignty over our lives. Furthermore, worship must be done in truth—honestly, biblically, centered on Christ.True believers must stop this mindless, endless, meaningless bickering about sites and sounds of worship. God is not interested in Jews or Samaritans, Presbyterians or Methodists, Calvinists or Arminians. He is interested in worshipers who worship in spirit and in truth.
John 27-30
-Women goes and tells others in the town (leaving her water pot behind) and others come out to see Jesus.
John 31-38
-Gaining the women to Christ is filling is spiritually filling.
-He is saying go and make disciples.
-1 Corinthians 3:6–8 “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.”
-Some sow, some reap, but they rejoice together—an appropriate picture of what the church ought to be in collective ministry today
-Witnesses are not responsible for converting people; their task is to tell the truth about what they know and let God work.
