INTRO—

APRIL 5, AD 33
About three days after the Passover Seder.
About three days after the most unjust trials in history.
Three days after the Crucifixion…
DAYS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD…
THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY OF EASTER WEEK
Sunday (around 6am andfollowing): The Resurrection
Mark 16.1-8

RESURRECTION: Unexpected [Mark 16.1-4]

Mark 16:1 “When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him.”
UNEXPECTED (Possibly) — That THESE DISCIPLES stand at the forefront of this time in Jesus’ life.
Leading out in significant devotion and honor to Jesus.
Mark 16:2 “Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb at sunrise.”
Mark 16:3 “They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?””
EXPECTATION — How will they find help for what they want…what they need…to do?
Mark 16:4 “Looking up, they noticed that the stone—which was very large—had been rolled away.”
UNEXPECTED (Though ‘shouldn’t have been’) — That the stone has already been rolled away (before they even arrived at the tomb!)
[[Often we are surprised by what Jesus does in our lives…when we probably shouldn’t have been.]]

RESURRECTION: Unbelievable [Mark 16.5-6]

[[UNBELIEVABLE = SURPRISING; & AMAZING]]
Mark 16:5 “When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed.”
UNBELIEVABLE — A different occupant (, occupants per the other Gospels) sitting up…awake/alive in the tomb
Mark 16:6 ““Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they put him.”
UNBELIEVABLE — The message from this ‘young man’/angel was startling!
[[Jesus involvement in our lives is many times so surprising…& soooo amazing!!]]

RESURRECTION: Undeniable [Mark 16.7-8]

Mark 16:7 “But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.’ ””
UNDENIABLE — The love of God for HIS DISCIPLES…in this circumstance—especially, Peter. Showing (by Peter’s own ‘testimony’) that God’s grace, forgiveness can always reach us!
Mark 16:8 “They went out and ran from the tomb, because trembling and astonishment overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone, since they were afraid. [Some of the earliest conclude with .]”
UNDENIABLE — The intensity of the situation…which caused these ladies to run and try to process what they had just experienced. (also, who would believe them, etc.)
UNDENIABLE — The rest of the story—recounted in the other Gospels—shows they did report…essentially they came to the point they HAD TO tell Peter and the others. (We know they did because of what we believe in Peter’s involvement in Mark’s Gospel account.)

CONCL—

EASTER — The most significant DAYS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD!
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
Romans 5:8–11 “But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.”
