Scripture Text:

Luke 23: 39-46 AMP

39 One of the criminals who had been hanged [on a cross beside Him] kept hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us [from death]!”
40 But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41 We are suffering justly, because we are getting what we deserve for what we have done; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”
42 And he was saying, “Jesus, [please] remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”
43 Jesus said to him, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” [2 Cor 12:4; Rev 2:7]
44 It was now about the sixth hour (noon), and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.), [Matt 27:45-56; Mark 15:33-41; John 19:14]
45 because the sun was obscured; and the veil [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two [from top to bottom]. [Ex 26:31-35]

Introduction

What is a charge?
A charge is when a person or individual committed a legal offense against you.

Point 1: What was the charge?

The charge against humanity revolves around the sinful nature of humanity. God had given humanity chance after chance. He gave his love yet humanity rejected it. He gave the law yet humanity disobeyed it. When you examine the scriptures God gave Moses the 10 commandants to Moses back in Exodus 20: 1-17 but soon as the people became impatient rejected God and the people built a golden calf. Fast forward an Israel was at the edge of the promise land, but yet doubted in spite all the miracles that God had performed yet his own people rejected him. When you search the scriptures from the Old Testament until this moment. The people of God rejected, rebelled, broke the covenant with him, worshipped idol Gods, stole, murdered, and broke many of the commandants that God has instituted. However, the bible says in
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but the world through him might be saved.

When at the symbolic nature of Luke 23: 39-42 AMP

39 One of the criminals who had been hanged [on a cross beside Him] kept hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us [from death]!”
40 But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41 We are suffering justly, because we are getting what we deserve for what we have done; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”
42 And he was saying, “Jesus, [please] remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”
Criminal #1 Represent The World
One of the criminals was look for the easy way out. He had no accountability, he had no remorse for his own crimes. He wasn’t even trying to get it right.
Criminal #2 Represented Grace
The criminal on opposite side of Jesus rebuked (disapproval) the other criminal and asked him a question “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? He knew what his circumstance was and accepted his judgement. He come to the conclusion that this was the Son of God and made a request. He said in verse 42 “Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom!”
I’m so glad that I serve a God who doesn’t look at my past but see me beyond my circumstance. I’m so glad that God glad me a new mind. He gave me a new start. He gave me a new attitude, and a new walk. I thank God that he dropped the charges. He cleared my debt. I don’t have to go to the priest. I can go to Jesus for myself. I’m so glad that he turned my circumstance around. The story didn’t stop there early Sunday morning he got up with all power wrapped up in his hands. I got victory over my circumstance.
