1. Title

Clear, memorable, and tied to the main point
Example: “Walking in the Light: What It Really Means”

2. Text

Primary passage (read it out loud)
Optional supporting passages

3. Introduction (Hook + Direction)

Goal: Grab attention and introduce the problem
Real-life situation / question / tension
Why this matters spiritually
Lead into the text naturally
Key Question to ask yourself:
“Why should they care about this right now?”

4. Context (Set the Stage)

Don’t skip this—this is where weak sermons fall apart.
Who wrote it?
To whom?
What’s happening in the passage?
Any key words or cultural background

5. Main Points (2–4 max)

Each point should come directly from the text, not your opinion.

Point #1: (Truth from the Text)

Explain the verse(s)
Define key terms
Show what it meant then
Supporting Scriptures:
Cross references
Illustration:
Real-life example, story, or analogy
Application:
What should we do?

Point #2: (Truth from the Text)

(Same structure)

Point #3: (Truth from the Text)

(Same structure)

6. Christ Connection

Even if it’s not obvious—bring it back to:
The cross
Salvation
God’s plan
Ask:
“How does this point us to Christ or the gospel?”

7. Application Section (Direct & Personal)

This is where you press the listener.
Break it into groups if helpful:
For Christians:
For those not yet saved:
For those struggling:
Be specific:
Not: “Do better”
But: “Repent of ___, start ___ this week”

8. Invitation (Clear Call to Action)

In your context, this is critical.
Hear (Romans 10:17)
Believe (Hebrews 11:6)
Repent (Luke 13:3)
Confess (Romans 10:9–10)
Be baptized (Acts 2:38)
Remain faithful (Revelation 2:10)
Make it simple, direct, and urgent—but not manipulative.

9. Conclusion (Land the Plane)

Restate the main idea
Bring emotional and spiritual weight
End with a challenge or encouragement
