Matthew 6:9-13 The Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6:9–13 “9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
INTRODUCTION — The Power of a Single Line
INTRODUCTION — The Power of a Single Line
Jesus didn’t teach prayerWo as a ritual but as a means of partnership.
The Lord’s Prayer is not passive—it’s a kingdom assignment.
Big idea: Prayer is the means by which the kingdom of heaven is brought to earth.
I. WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN?
I. WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN?
A. The Kingdom Is God’s Rule and Reign
A. The Kingdom Is God’s Rule and Reign
Not just a place—a reality wherever God’s will is done.
Jesus’ ministry demonstrated the kingdom: healing, deliverance, restoration.
B. The Kingdom Is Already Here, but Not Yet Fully
B. The Kingdom Is Already Here, but Not Yet Fully
We live in the tension between what God has begun and what He will complete.
Prayer is how believers stand in that gap.
II. WHY PRAYER IS THE BRIDGE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH
II. WHY PRAYER IS THE BRIDGE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH
A. Prayer Aligns Us With God’s Heart
A. Prayer Aligns Us With God’s Heart
Before God changes circumstances, He often changes us.
Romans 7:15–20 “15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.”
1 Thessalonians 4:1-3 “3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;”
Ephesians 6:10-20 The Armor of God
Prayer shifts our desires, attitudes, and priorities.
The role of the Spirt is to deliver the mind of God 1 Corinthians 2:9–10 “9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— 10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”
People have limitations - We need the supernatural to inter the natural. To be in the Spirit is apposed to being in the flesh. This is not entering and exiting, but in the whelm - Romans 8:1-13 When you have the Spirit, you have the mind of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16–17 “16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” “16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Romans 7:24–25 “24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.”
