The News!

He is Risen! The tomb was Empty!
John 20:1–18 NIV
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) Then the disciples went back to where they were staying. Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

The Letter

1 Corinthians 15:1–11 NIV
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

You brothers and sisters responded to the gospel I preached to you and became followers and disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. So far you have been standing firm in the truth that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. That basic belief means that you are now members of God’s family so stand firm against false teachings.

1 Corinthians 15:1–11 The Message
Friends, let me go over the Message with you one final time—this Message that I proclaimed and that you made your own; this Message on which you took your stand and by which your life has been saved. (I’m assuming, now, that your belief was the real thing and not a passing fancy, that you’re in this for good and holding fast.) The first thing I did was place before you what was placed so emphatically before me: that the Messiah died for our sins, exactly as Scripture tells it; that he was buried; that he was raised from death on the third day, again exactly as Scripture says; that he presented himself alive to Peter, then to his closest followers, and later to more than five hundred of his followers all at the same time, most of them still around (although a few have since died); that he then spent time with James and the rest of those he commissioned to represent him; and that he finally presented himself alive to me. It was fitting that I bring up the rear. I don’t deserve to be included in that inner circle, as you well know, having spent all those early years trying my best to stamp God’s church right out of existence. But because God was so gracious, so very generous, here I am. And I’m not about to let his grace go to waste. Haven’t I worked hard trying to do more than any of the others? Even then, my work didn’t amount to all that much. It was God giving me the work to do, God giving me the energy to do it. So whether you heard it from me or from those others, it’s all the same: We spoke God’s truth and you entrusted your lives.
Here is a summary of the gospel message I shared with you:
Possibilities for a FULL LIFE ARE NOW ours!

We Believe

The Message
We know about the incredible transformation in the lives of Peter, James , John and the rst of the Galilean followers of the rabbi from Nazareth.
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures
Living out our lkives in a rellationship with the Living Triune God is noe a possibility.
He died on the cross and was buried in Joseph’s tomb
God’s mighty power raised Him again on the third day just as He had told us, and that was in accordance with the Scriptures
In order to kill the rumors about His body being stolen, think about these events:
He appeared to Peter
He appeared to the group called the Twelve
He appeared to 500 at one time, most of them are still alive at this date
He appeared to his half-brother James, the son of Mary and Joseph
He also appeared to a selected group of followers called “apostles.”
On the road to Damascus, he changed my life and as Ananias laid hands on me, he began showing me the Truth of His life and ministry. Because of His grace, I am doing all I can to spread the Good News about life in God’s family.

The Empty Tomb

Easter - old Hebrew word meaning appearing, dawning, breaking through. Light has broken through the darkness of sin and life has now come by Jesus’ death. What death came to destroy, God used to restore life to those that believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and LOrd.
I will take you out - He has taken me out of my past life
I will take you out - He has taken me out of my past life
I will set you free - He has set me free from the enemy
The Resurrection revealed Christ’s power over death
I will redeem you - His power has made me a new creation in Christ
I will take you as my people - I am a member of God’s Family
No human had ever resurrected and continued to live

The Empty Tomb

The Resurrection proved that He was the Son of God
The Resurrection defeated God’s enemy
The Kingdom of God is ruled by a living sovereign
The Resurrection serves as an anchor for our faith
The Resurrection is the final proof that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be
