13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Introduction
All of the disciples were young men, Peter was probably the oldest because he was married, but history tells us that (probably) none of them would have been older than Jesus, who was 30 when they were called.
Their futures were a mystery, but because of the revelation given to Peter of who Jesus is, which revelation the church would be built on, Jesus said “you are a rock”, you were built to last, you are dependable, you can be counted on.
We have been told by the Message of the hour who we are, and all of you young people are a rock. You are a generation that will not see death, you are the Bride coming of Christ, you are anointed and empowered to defeat death. You are an invincible army. You raise the dead, cast out devils, speak with new tongues, lay hands on the sick and they recover.
We aren’t waiting on that, this is who you are.
“Now are we the sons of God”
You’re probably sitting there thinking “that’s cap”. “You’re sus” “I don’t slay” “I spent the day playing minecraft in my room.”
This revelation will keep you, but you need to look away from what you are now and the mistakes you make every day, and let the revelation you have heard anchor deep in your soul.
The revelation that kept Joseph also caused his trouble in life.
The Word tries you.
19 Until the time that his word came: The word of the Lord tried him.
19 until what he had said came to pass, the word of the LORD tested him. ESV
What he had confessed would actually be his trial, until it came to pass.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
Hope deferred could be a nickname for a Message youth group.
You hope to get married, to the right one, and you hope the right one is pretty, or handsome as the case may be, and that hope is deferred, because you’re 13.
You hope to get a good job, preferably without paying attention in school. Some of you may hope to be a good musician, or a preacher or a deacon.
The revelation that you can do the greater works lays in you, but you still have to go to school, and do your chores, or work a job. You still have to listen to your parents.
(12 year old Jesus at the temple)
He did not give you this revelation to put pressure on you, but to keep you. What is in you will keep you, commit that to Him.
He did not tell Peter who he might become, he told Him who he was, the potentials that he already had.
Peter would be a rock, in spite of himself.
Example: Gideon.
11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
Gideon, in you is the deliverance of Israel, go express that.
Just because you haven’t done it yet, is no indication that you won’t do it.
You’re too young to have a track record. Satan would love to discourage you and discredit you, but he cannot change the plan God has for your life.
When Noah was 18 he probably couldn’t spell the word “ark”.
When Moses was 18 he was living as an Egyptian, completely oblivious to the suffering of his people.
When David was a young man he took care of the sheep, even after he was anointed by Samuel.
When Rahab was a teenager she was being used by her parents to be a prostitute on the street.
When the woman at the well was a teenager she was turned out by her parents and hurt by the church.
Before Mary met the angel she was just another girl.
Don’t judge yourself on what you are at 18, you haven’t even blossomed yet.
Example: At 18 Abraham Lincoln split rails for a living, had less than one year of education, and had never traveled outside the counties he lived in. At 19 he went to New Orleans and that trip changed his life.
Illustration: I remember when this tree was barely peeping over the top of a silo, near my hometown of Nevada, Missouri.
For years this tree was hidden in the darkness, but one day it made it to the top. Don’t judge the seed by it’s present state, look what it will be.
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
This little pond lily, look where it come through; dirt, muck, mud, muddy waters, dirty waters. It pressed its way through all of that, this little germ of life, working itself from the bottom of the pond where the frogs and things are at, and then brings itself up through all of that.
But when it gets in the presence of the sun, it’s born. The little seed bursts open into life. It cannot do that until it goes through all that process. It’s got to come through that. That’s what makes it, is because that the sun itself is what’s drawing it.
And when it gets fully above all the dirty waters, and muck, and so forth, then it’s so happy, it just gives its life out freely. And it’s a beautiful life when it gets in the presence of that which is drawing it up. 65-0124 - "Birth Pains"
The mystery of who I will be is directly tied to the revelation of Who He is.
Peter’s future as “The rock” was not the potential of the flesh, but the potential of the seed, and it would only blossom by his conversion.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
He was still the rock, he was still the spokesman, he was still the guy who had the revelation of who Jesus is.
Can you imagine how he felt when all these things came true?
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
328 He said, “O Lord, You know I love You.” He said, “I love You. I’m ready to die for You.”
329 He said, “Peter, you think you mean that, but you’ll deny Me three times before…You’ll deny Me before the cock crows the third time. See, you’ll deny Me thrice before the cock crows.”
330 And then seeing that come to pass, when he stood there and said “I don’t know Him. No, I don’t know nothing about them there Pentecostals.”
332 Said, “I—I—I—I know I denied Him. I denied Him in the presence of Pilate. I denied Him in the presence when that little woman come around to me, said, ‘Aren’t you one of them?’ ‘No!’ And even cursed!” Oh, he was in a terrible shape. Said, “I—I—I…” She denied…He had denied Him. And he had seen Jesus stand and look over, then is when the cock crowed, looked over at Peter. He went out. Oh, he was discouraged with himself, said, “Why do I live any longer?” 61-1119 - "Perfect Strength By Perfect Weakness"
Peter may have had suicidal thoughts, in that moment of weakness. But no matter many times he messed up, Peter could not be Judas.
Satan is a liar, you are not a Judas, you are Peter. You may be in a horrible condition in your mind, but give God time to bring about His good Word in your life.
13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The mystery of who Peter was would only be revealed in Christ.
You will never find meaning in the culture. You might become a YouTube star or a tik tok legend, but you will never know who you are, until you receive the Seal of the Holy Ghost, and He begins to reveal Himself through you, from Glory to Glory.
The mystery of who I will be is the mystery of Christ in Me, working out his will in my life.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
We are changed into His image.
As the light of the sun changes the seed from glory to glory, we also become more like Him as we live in His Presence; like Him, being conformed to His blessed image as we walk with Him. 64-0614M - "The Unveiling Of God"
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
We’re still in the shell of flesh.
The mystery of who I will be is never fully revealed in this life.
35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
You need patience for yourself, patience for others and patience with God.
Everything seems big right now because you’re young, but the longer you live the more trivial some things become.
We can be so consumed by how many views we get on Instagram that we forget it doesn’t matter.
We make choices under pressure and then we grieve under pressure.
Peter’s denial did not change the purpose of God for his life, all it did was reveal he was lacking what he needed to become what he would be.
What he needed was the indwelling of the Spirit, but the Spirit was promised to him.
The Spirit has been promised to you as well, Peter unlocked the door with his keys.
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
The token is a promise to you.
He wants to bless you. He’s ready, He’s pressing. Could you imagine taking all the waters in the earth, the seas and everything, and piling it in one four-foot pipe and put it up there? The pressure would be on the bottom of it, trying to find a little crevice to leak its way through. That’s like the pressure of the Holy Spirit trying to come down on every life. 62-0603 - "The End-Time Evangelism"
He wants to confirm your faith, He’s waiting on you to look away from yourself ad your mistakes, look to Him and completely surrender your life.
You can receive the Holy Ghost while I’m preaching this Message and be sealed completely.
Jesus knew Peter would go to Pentecost, and Judas would not. He could not receive the fulness of the Word which is the indwelling of the Spirit who is the Word.
You are not Judas, you are a rock, you are Peter, receive the promise of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Satan will do everything in His power to keep you from coming to your potential.
He knows the potential you have to destroy him.
This is who you will be.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
