Title - The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over

1. The Narrative Introduction

(Setting the Theme: The Architecture of Connection)
The idea of a bridge being built fascinates me. There is something majestic about a structure that refuses to let a chasm have the last word. I’ve watched videos of spans stretching across vast canyons and turbulent waterways, marveling at how these masterworks bring people and purpose together. They make what was once inaccessible, reachable. They create pathways for connection, enabling communities to thrive.
Bridges remind me of where we’ve been, what we are navigating, and ultimately, where we are going. Today, we arrive at the Sixth Word from the Cross—a word that sounds like a whisper but carries the weight of a sonic boom: "It is finished." In this moment of profound agony, stretched between heaven and earth, Jesus doesn't speak of His own end, but of an accomplishment. Brothers and Sisters, the bridge has been completed. Our sin created an unbridgeable divide between a sinking humanity and a Holy God. We were stranded on the shores of our own mistakes. But God, the Master Architect, had a plan. He sent His Son, Jesus, the Master Carpenter, to build the ultimate bridge. The construction is over. The pathway is established. The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over.

2. The Exegetical Foundation (The "Then and There")

(Deepened Context: The Three Dimensions of the Debt)
Now listen, y'all! Some of you might be wondering about this bridge I'm talking about. Let's take a quick trip back to Genesis chapter three. Adam and Eve messed up, sin entered—BAM!—and just like that, the direct connection, that easy walk with God in the cool of the day, was broken! Torn down! We were on one side, God was on the other, and there was a "No Trespassing" sign written in the ink of our own rebellion.
But thank God, He had a plan! When we get to the Cross this morning, John tells us Jesus said, "It is finished!" Now, in the "Then and There," the Greek word is Tetelestai. And to the original hearers, this word had three distinct "Folksy" meanings that prove The Bridge is Built.
First, it was a Business Word. When a debt was fully paid in the ancient world, the merchant would write Tetelestai across the parchment. It meant "Paid in Full." Jesus was looking at the ledger of your life—the lies, the lust, the pride, and the pain—and He stamped "Paid in Full" over your account!
Second, it was a Military Word. When a general returned from a successful campaign, he would march into the city and declare Tetelestai. It meant "The Mission is Accomplished." Jesus was saying, "I’ve fought the devil in the wilderness, I’ve fought sickness in the streets, and now I’ve conquered death on the hill. The war is over!"
Third, it was a Priestly Word. When the high priest examined the sacrificial lamb and found no spot or blemish, he would say Tetelestai. It meant "The Sacrifice is Perfect." Jesus wasn't a helpless victim up there. He was the Foreman on the job site! That Cross wasn't an accident; it was the very work He came to complete. He didn't say, "I am finished," as if He were defeated. He said, "IT is finished," because the work of building the bridge back to God was DONE! The price? PAID! The way? MADE! The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over.

3. The Body: The Unbroken Stream

(Moving from Foundation to Application)
I. Initiate Your Crossing!
This mighty span, reaching from the depths of our brokenness all the way to the glorious presence of God, stands complete! It’s not under construction! There are no "Road Work Ahead" signs on the blood of Jesus! And listen to this good news: This ain’t no toll bridge, y'all! There ain't no fee to cross over! The price has already been paid by the blood of the Lamb!
It doesn't matter where you've been or what you've done. The invitation rings out clear and true. But you’ve got to move. You can’t just stand on the bank and admire the architecture. You’ve got to put your weight on the Promise! The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over.
II. Navigate Without Delay
It breaks my heart to see so many folks who have started the journey—they’ve put one foot on the bridge—but they've gotten stuck. They’re "sight-seeing" on the dusty roads of their past. They’re gazing into the murky waters of "what could have been" or "who hurt me."
God didn't build this bridge for you to just hang out in the middle! He didn't sacrifice His Son for you to just admire the craftsmanship of the sermon! He built it for you to get to the other side! Don't let the whispers of the world or the ghosts of your yesterday slow you down. The Father is waiting with open arms! The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over.
III. Extend a Helping Way
For those of us who have made it across, we have a sacred calling. We are not just tourists; we are Disciples. Jesus gave us the Great Commission in Matthew 28. We are called to be "Assistant Bridge Builders." We are called to reach back to those still stranded on the other side of addiction, the other side of depression, the other side of doubt. Let us lock arms and help our brothers and sisters find the path. The Bridge is Built: Now Cross Over.

4. The Celebratory Close (The Gospel Victory)

(The "Whoop" / Rhythmic Cadence)
But what can we add to the Master's final word?!
He looked down from that rugged cross!
He saw the chasm!
He saw the cost!
And with a shout that silenced the very whispers of hell...
He declared: IT. IS. FINISHED!
The bridge has been built!
The span from eternity to humanity is complete!
It wasn't defeat!
It wasn't the flesh giving up!
It wasn't the devil winning!
Jesus didn't lose—He finished the course!
He didn't drop the ball—He crossed the line!
He bowed His head...
And the Word says He GAVE UP His spirit!
Nobody took it!
The Romans didn't take it!
The Jews didn't take it!
He GAVE it!
That's the mark of a King!
That's the mark of a Savior!
IT IS FINISHED!
Death has lost its sting!
The grave has been robbed!
The debt is paid!
The bridge is open!
Is there anyone here who’s ready to walk?!
Is there anyone here who’s ready to cross?!
The foundation is unshakeable!
The salvation is forevermore!
The Master says the way is clear!
The Bridge is Built!
The work is done!
Cross over!
Cross over!
CROSS OVER!
AMEN!
