It is Finished!
It is finished!
The 6th saying Jesus spoke from the cross.
These three words in English have been translated to us from one Greek word “Tetelestai” meaning it is finished.
A quick read over this verse might tempt us to think that Jesus was speaking of his physical sufferings ending.
Indeed his suffering at the cross was about to end but a closer look into the meaning of this word will show us he meant so much more.
The Greek word Tetelestai is thick with meaning.
Our English words can’t portray the weight of this word as well as the Greek.
Tetelestai was used by servants when they were given a task to complete and once they completed their work would report back to their masters It is finished.
Jesus the perfect servant reported back to God the father the his redemptive work on the cross was finished.

This word was also used by merchants to mean paid in full.
Or bankers when a debt was paid in full.
Jesus has fully paid our debt we owe from our sin and rebellion.
Artist would also cry out Tetelestai when they had finished with a master piece.
Jesus the original creator has restored out relationship with God in the most beautiful way.
Priest and shepherds would use this word when they would find the perfect sheep for sacrifice.
Jesus is the perfect lamb of God that forever takes away the sins of the world.
On top of all that Jesus spoke this word in the perfect tense and this describes an action that is completed in the past present and the future once for all.
Jesus’ work is done on the cross and will always be done and has always been done .
Christian do you live in Jesus victory?
He has done a perfect work paying for our sins and bringing us back into relationship with him.
So many of us relate to God on our own performance and not the completed work of Jesus.
As i mentioned before Tetelestai was used by artist when they had finished a work of art.
Jesus’ work for our salvation was a master work of art.

How silly would you look trying to make one more payment on your car that has been paid off?
This is what we look like when we try and work for our salvation.
How sad it is when we don’t trust that Jesus’ work wasn’t enough for us.
No! Jesus said it is finished.
We have been redeemed.
There is nothing let to do.
It has been paid in full.
All we have to do is believe it and walk in it and worship him for it.
