The Cup of Sanctification

“Blessed are you, O Lord our God, ruler of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.”
Reminds us of God’s promise, “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Parsley

“Blessed are you, O Lord our God, ruler of the universe, who creates the fruit of the earth.
Represents life, which God gives us.

Salt Water

Represents the tears of the Israelites because of the suffering that endured during their time of slavery to the Egyptians.

Matzah

On Passover only bread without yeast is eaten because the Israelites had to eat their first passover meal in haste. The bread did not have time to rise.
Also because leaven is a metaphor for the bad influence of sin in our lives.
The cleansing of the house of leaven is symbolic of doing away with the old life of sin.

Break the middle piece of matzah.

Horse Radish

We eat bitter herbs to remind us of the Israelites terrible life of slavery in Egypt.

Reminder that even in slavery, the Israelites had hope in God.

Reminds us of God’s promise, “I will redeem you with an outstretched arm.”
